I am not Afraid; a Remus Lupin love story

School Supplies

James, Sirius, Remus, Peter and I all sat around the table in the ice cream shop. "So Maxwell..where are you from again?" asked James "America, well specifically Massachusetts" I told him for the fourth time. "Oi prongs! She's from America get that through your thick skull!!" Sirius said as he slapped James up side the head. "Anyway, Charolette do you still have things to get? Because I'm sure we would all be glad to help you get them before you find your mom, right guys??" said Remus as he looked at the rest of the group  who nodded vigorously in agreement.

"Really?! That would be so nice. Yes, I would love some help! I still need robes and I would actually like an owl too we weren't allowed to have them at Ilvermorny, but I have everything else from last year." I said and Remus smiled at me and I back at him. We all stood up and walked to the robe shop Madam Malkin's. "Hello dears!" said a woman who I assumed was Madam Malkin herself, "getting robes for Hogwarts are we?" she asked, "I am," I said raising my hand. "Okay sugar! Follow me, no boys!" she said pointing at my new friends, as she lead me to a back room.

Remus POV

"Okay moony you can just tell us now," James said.

"Tell you what?!" I asked

"Don't be daft Remus! We know you find her attractive, at least!!" Siruis said answering for James as Peter nodded "Honestly, you soo like her, we can see it!"

"I do not! I've only known her for a couple of hours! Plus I could never be in a serious relationship with anyone, and you all know that!" I said, "Well only I could be in a SIRIUS relationship! Ha! But no really moony that's not true, people will love you no matter what you are." Sirius said putting the last part in a wisper"

"Shh she's back," James said fixing his unruly hair trying to look normal "oh," we all said turning around and and at the same time we said "hi!!"

Charolette turned to look at us bag in hand and said "heyyyy" slowly and confused but she shook it off and we all walked out of the shop.

As we were walking down the street James, Sirius and peter walked ahead and charlotte and I fell natually towards the the back as we made our way to Eeylops Owl Emporium. I looked over at her and through she was watching the ground as we walked, I noticed she was actually quite pretty, the color of her hair against her bright blue eyes, and I thought someone so naturally pretty is out of my league. I mean I was a werewolf for crying out loud! But then she snapped her head up and I quickly looked away but I felt her watching me now, and I tried to keep the smile down.

"We've attrived!!!" shouted sirius who walked In the shop like he owned it.

Charolettes POV

We walked in the owl store and I looked around at all the pets I could get, there were dozens of them! But I walked over to the owls and right away I saw the most beautiful black owl with green eyes and I knew that was the one wanted! "Can one of you all get the black one down? Please?" "Sure thing!! Black is my last name!" Sirius said and we all laughed.

I carried my new owl, Noir, over to the counter and the marauders, as they called themselves,  followed me but as I was getting out my money I saw a stack of new bookes on the table next to us entitled " The Nature of a Warewolf" I loved Werewolves they were just so fascinating, not to mention activism and social justice was going to be my career, something Werewolves could benefit from! I told the clerk I wanted one and she rang it up, I payed and then picked up my copy on my way back to the boys smiling to myself. The boys look taken aback by my actions, I assumed they were most likely just scared of Werewolves, I had never been afraid, but then again I was used to the idea. I heard a first year say to one of his friends while they looked at the display "Ew just look at it! It looks just like a monster- I bet it could eat you fast!" I then turned to the little boy and said "Excuse me, Werewolves are NOT monsters. They are normal people who just happen to change into a wolf once a month, it's not their fault!" "Whatever!" he said and he and his friends walked out. People drove me nuts, being an activist was a constant battle. 

"You don't think Werewolves are monsters...?" Remus asked shocked

"No, and don't tell me you do!! It's not their fault!" I said back exasperated from my encounter with the little boy.

I saw James and Sirius glance at each other with their mouths open

"No, yeah, you're right! It's not their fault, they can't help it." Remus said still in shock but I smiled anyway, he agreed with me. Not many people do!

So I grabbed remus's arm and dragged him out of the store the rest following, Sirius holding my owl, and Peter and James still in shock.

"So what's next?" Peter asked the first one back to earth. "Um let me look!" I said back "actually that's it... I have everything I need." A little sad that meant I'd have to go home. 

"Well you don't have to leave now do you?" said James " Unfortunately, it's getting late and my moms waiting for me at the Leaky Cauldron to go home and-" "oh we are all staying at the Leaky Couldron tonight, so we'll walk you there!" James said cutting me off. "Sure okay! Thanks." I said back and we all walked together there.

We opend the door into the Leaky Couldron and just like I said my mom was there waiting for me, and the moment she saw me she jumped up and basically ran towards me, angry but also worried looking. "Charolette Marie Maxwell! Where have you been I was finnished two hours ago! You had me worried sick! I didn't know if you were lost-" I then cut her off. "Mom. Mom. Mom! I'm fine! I wasn't lost! Everything is A-okay. But here, these are my new friends try not to scare them with so much worry. This is Remus Lupin..." "nice to meet you Mrs. Maxwell" he said shaking her hand "... Sirius Black" "I'm not like my family so don't get your hopes up, nice to meet you!!" Sirius said giving my mom a hug "...James Potter" "hello James" "it's a pleasure ma'am!" said James "...and Peter Petigrew" "hello!" said Peter shaking my moms hand. "Well Char your friends are lovely but we must be going. It was lovely meeting you four!!" my mom half yelled as she walked away from us. I looked down at my shoes I didn't want to say goodbye what if we got to school and they pretend like we never met? 

"Thank you for helping me get my things today, and I guess I'll see you all tomorrow! Goodbye!" I gave them all a hug, I held on to Remus slightly longer than the others he had been a lifesaver and smelled so good, like chocolate. I then turned on my heel and followed my mom, I tried not to look back, hopped in the fire place and we were gone.
