They walked towards a small park almost unknown to most residents within their town. Tony clutched onto his warm coffee hoping to distract Clay from what he really wanted to know. Clay stayed close his arm occasionally brushing up against Tony's. Tony looked over at the houses avoiding eye contact.

"So..?" Clay cleared his throat.

Tony sighed, "Clay, it's complicated."

"Then help me understand." Clay urged Tony to go on, " we-were you two dating?"

"No, trust me." Tony scoffed, "i just thought everyone knew."

"Knew what?" Clay frowned.

"That I'm gay." Tony looked over at Clay who choked on his coffee.

Clay coughed and recovered before looking at Tony, "I didn't know."

"I don't just hang out with people like Ryan." Tony shrugged, "especially with his attitude."

Clay thought about for amount before letting out an astonished laugh. Tony smiled as he took a drink of his coffee hoping that had distracted Clay enough. He didn't know how he was going to come out and say that he had a crush on Clay especially if Clay kept pestering him about it.

"Does your dad know?" Clay hummed playing with the lid of his cup.

"Sort of." Tony huffed, "I think he suspects something."

"Is he okay with it?" Clay looked over at Tony who had a frown playing at his lips.

"Honestly, Clay I don't know." Tony looked over at a rose bush trying his best not to look at Clay.

Clay stood silent considering Tony's words and body language. He knew how Tony's father had a temper and he didn't blame Tony for not coming out straight away to his family. Who knew how his father would react if he did tell him he was gay. Clay looked over at Tony who had taken a sip of his coffee not saying a word.  The silence to Clay was discomforting in a way, he didn't know what all of this meant and how it tied in with what  was going on with Tony's secret. Him being gay couldn't have been his secret especially if Tony thought that everyone already knew.

"My secret.." Tony sighed, "could ruin everything."

"Tony, you know I won't judge you especially if it's not earth shattering." Clay gave him a reassuring smile, but Tony didn't smile back.

They finally made it into the park that was unsurprisingly empty. They made their way towards the swings and each took a seat. Tony rocked back and forth before looking over at Clay with almost apologetic eyes.

"I-I can't." Tony frowned and Clay raised an eyebrow at him.

"Why?" Clay kept on pushing and Tony was tempted to leave.

He maintained his cool and sucked in a deep breath, "because we won't be the same, alright?"

"It won't change our-"

Tony gave him a doubtful look.

"Okay, it might, but not to the point that it could ruin our friendship." Clay bargained.

Tony finished his drink and stood up shaking his head. Clay also stood up and watched Tony trying to read his unreadable expression. They stood in silence and Tony looked up finally making his decision.

"No, Clay, I'm sorry i just can't." Tony spoke with superiority that Clay could respect.

Clay sighed obviously unhappy with Tony's decision, "okay."

"C'mon I'll take you home." Was all Tony muttered.

Later that evening Tony found himself unable to exit his car that sat in his parents garage. He couldn't find the energy to leave his car. All he wanted to do was disappear and never return to school. He sighed and rested his head on his steering wheel. All he could think about was how Clay looked at him before he left. The look of disappointment was evident on the other teen's face and Tony just wanted to melt away at that moment hoping Clay would just leave him be .

He groaned and exited his car a small frown resting on his face. Tony grabbed his book bag making his way into his house where he could here his brothers and sisters in the living room laughing about something he was sure he wouldn't care about. He quickly passed the living room hoping that for once his siblings would just leave him alone and surprisingly they did. He sighed in relief and stepped into his room locking the door behind himself.

Tony tossed his bag on the floor of his room and flopped onto his bed shutting his eyes hoping sleep would come to him. He kicked off his shoes and threw his leather jacket across the room not even bothering to check where it landed. He groaned into his mattress considering not going to school ever again. He was slowly drifting to sleep that is until a knock on his door startled him awake. He huffed and sat up glaring at the door before standing up and unlocking it.

"Chiquito, dinner is ready." His older sister hummed leaning against his door frame.

"Don't call me that." Tony glared at her but she only laughed, "give me a minute."

She nodded walking away. He shut his door knowing he had to fix his attitude before sitting down with the others. He clenched his fist obviously aggravated with himself. He took a deep breath and opened his door making his way towards the dining room.

He definitely would be staying home from school, but only for a day or two. He'd make up an excuse and tell his mother who was much more understanding than his father. He stuffed his hands in his pockets and took his seat. He just needed some time to think that was all.
