10-4-16  RECLAIMING OUR LAND

On April 29, 1607, Pastor Robert Hunt led English settlers in a re-landing at Cape Henry after a failed attempt when they were attacked by Natives three days earlier.  This time, they came to kneel in the sand by a wooden cross they had erected, and Hunt led them in a prayer of dedication that is little known today.  It was a prayer of dedication for all of Virginia, or in context for the entire eastern seaboard (which is called Virginia) which became the United States of America:

                       Prayer of Dedication

"We do hereby dedicate this land, and ourselves, to reach the people within these shores with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and to raise up godly generations after us, and with these generations take the Kingdom of God to all the earth.  May this Covenant of Dedication remain to all generations, as long as this earth remains, and may this land, . . . be Evangelist to the World.  May all who see this cross, remember what we have done here, and may those who come here to inhabit join us in this Covenant and in this noble work that the Holy Scriptures may be fulfilled."

Psalm 22:27-28  "All the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the Lord; and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before Thee."

We need to rededicate ourselves and our churches to this prayer.  Especially as God has called many of you from other lands to come to America to help her come back to God.  Here is a suggested prayer for after entering into the above prayer of dedication.

"Almighty and merciful God, let us never stray from the commission to which You have called us to bring the inhabitants of this land to the knowledge of Your Kingdom.  Help us to be bearers of Your truth to those who so sorely need to receive it.  This we ask in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord."

Those of you who have come to live here in the U.S. from other countries need to understand that God did not enable you to come here just for your own benefit.  NO!  He brought you here to work to turn this nation back to God!  It is time we thought about this, talked to others about it, and prayed about it.  Then go out into the highways and by ways and DO IT.   Rebecca.
