Chapter 1

“Name: Sapphire Willkuns, Age: 22, Previous occupation:Café waitress.” She mouthed to herself as she filled her application. She sat at a small table outside the restaurant she was currently applying for. The sun was shining as her pen glided across the paper with ease. “Hmm, I didn’t realize a job application would ask for hair and eye color?” Sapphire observed the paper with a bewildered look crossing her face.

“Oh my, lookie who! Didn’t think I’d come across you today Saph.” A familiar voice reached Sapphires ears as she heard footsteps approach her from behind. She knew exactly who it was just from the dialogue he had spoken to address her. No one else but him…

“Neither did I,” She started and turned in her chair to meet a gorgeous face staring back at her with his blue eyes and windblown jet black hair. A warm smile pasted on his pale face. “…Luka.” She sighed as she returned to her current objective, ignoring Luka, who was hovering over her like a vulture filled with curiosity.

“Sooo, whatcha doin’ there Sapphire?” He asked, strutting to the other side of the table and seating himself across from her. “Still looking for a job?” He sighed as his eyes came across the paper lying in front of her. “Saph…” He began.

“What?”

“That’s not a job application…” He observed wryly as he continued, “Honestly, I don’t even know what it is. How the hell did you get your hands on that? And could you please fill me in on what it is?” He eyed her from beneath his long lashes.

Sapphire noted his observation and stared at the paper on the table. He was right…it wasn’t an application…and just like Luka, she didn’t know what it was either. “What the…” She started and set the pen on the table with a thud. “What is it then?” She asked, looking at Luka as she scratched her head in wonder.

“You tell me.” He crossed his broad arms and leaned back in his chair, eyeing her with confusion. “And why on Earth are you applying for this job?” He turned to look at the restaurant beside them, switching his gaze from her, back at the restaurant. “You know you can do better, Saph…” He looked at her with amusement in his eyes.

“Because it’s the only one I can find that’s close enough to my apartment! It’s not my fault the café I was previously working at burned to rubble mysteriously…” She pouted and crossed her arms as well. They stared at each other as they sat in silence for a few moments. Luka  finally speaking up.

“There’s always my option.” He smirked and looked her over with a grin.

“No. How many times have I told you, it’s too dangerous for me. I wouldn’t last a day, not like you! You’re trained for that Luka. I’d just get in your way…” She went on as a dark shadow leered above her. Pale arms had been propped up on the surface just in front of her view by hands, just as pale and strong. Sapphire felt a chill run down her spine as she lifted her gaze. Her eyes widened as she saw Luka leaning over the table, his cool blue eyes showering her with intensity she had only seen once before. She could take in every inch of detail just from staring at him, his face so close. His eyes half lidded as he looked at her, the blue pools in his eyes glinting in the sun’s rays. His mouth was tightened into a rigid line, showing his serious side. She slightly eyed his hair as the wind loosened short black strands, falling over his eyes. Sapphire returned his gaze and waited for him to speak, sensing his lips part slightly.

“Sapphire…” He began as he continued to look at her with the same intensity as before.

“…” She couldn’t manage to part her lips at the sight of Luka at the moment, his face so close and…stunning.
