Amara point of view

He was staring at me with practically glowing ice-blue eyes, like he was staring right through me straight into my soul. I turned away from him, looking behind me to see if maybe his glance was meant for someone else. But, alas, there was no one for several feet. I carefully looked back at him and saw that his eyes were no longer on me, but on another older gentleman speaking to him.
I watched him for another moment, I thought to myself (he the only one without mask) and then I got snapped out of my thoughts.

"Amara ! What are you doing?" Emily's loud voice scrambled my attention, and I suddenly turned to her, my wine sloshing in its glass and threatening to spill over. "Don't pretend I didn't see you staring at him." Without looking, she gestured to his direction. I looked at her as if I had no idea what she was talking about. She wasn't buying it.

I sighed in defeat. "I was only looking at him because I saw him staring at me first," and I looked at his direction it looked like he was leaving. I looked down at my feet, my false confidence gone in the presence of my pretentious best friend. Emily took a nervous glance at him right before he left the werewolf ceremony building.

"Are you sure he was looking at you? This is only everyone's first Mating Ball," she looked around the two of us quickly to ensure that there were no males (or females even) wishing to speak to us before giving me a warning. "Look, it's just that for fresh meat like us, Alphas are hands off unless they decide to come to us first. You don't want to come off as clingy or no male will want you, Alpha or not," Emily took my wrist in an assuring attempt at comfort.

"You're right, I must have been imagining things," I gave an only slightly convincing laugh. It didn't fool her, but she pretended that it did. Giving one last squeeze of my wrist, she turned away to go make conversation with another male. I reached up with my left hand and twirled a piece of my dirty blonde hair that strayed from its braid.
"Ugh, he keeps looking at her, through the window " a whisper reached my ears. I didn't like bragging about it, but my hearing was very good as any other wolf's. The whisper seemed like nothing at first, until I turned to where the sound was coming from. Two females, most certainly older than I, were huddled close together, one looking straight at me and the other looking just past me. A quick glance in my peripheral vision led me to the Alpha who I had caught looking at me earlier, he was looking  at me through a window I meet his gaze then looked way from him.

The two ladies who I had caught whispering looked slightly stunned, but they recovered their high and mighty posture to walk over to me. The one who had been staring at me, the woman in the green dress, spoke first. "Well, I must say you have a lovely dress on. The red matches your skin tone and that mask make your eyes sparkle. I just smiled at them and thanked them.

"And your hair!" The other woman, in the purple dress, said a bit too enthusiastically, "it's just gorgeous," she said quickly, reaching out to touch my braid. The green lady smacked her hand away with a forced grin. The purple lady laughed and hiccuped. I shyly thanked them for their compliments. I'm not beautiful, I thought, I'm just plain old me.
"Please excuse my friend here," the purple girl paused, "she's had a little too much to drink tonight," she sighed. "It's our last ball tonight. If we don't get chosen at the ceremony, we're left mateless for life," she gave a bitter laugh and took a sip of her white wine. I could tell that she was just saying this for sympathy, but it might have been true.

"I'm sure you'll find one. If you don't, you can take mine," I tried as a joke, giving a small laugh despite the sad situation.
"Oh no, I could never take him away from you. His gaze at you tonight has been stronger than any Alpha before. He must really like you," she spat, her kind face gone, replaced by a look of envy. I opened my mouth to ask as to what she was talking about, but before I could say anything, her friend cupped her hand over her mouth. I heard the lady in the green dress whisper "he will never love you" to her self, I thought to myself ( what do you mean he will never love  me).

"Bathroom, now!" The purple girl gagged and without another word, the green girl dragged her toward the restroom before she could throw up from the wine. I looked down at my wine before setting it aside at a nearby table, thoroughly disgusted.
My mind starts to wander a bit, away from the strange women that just approached me and more on the Alpha. Surely, he wasn't into me, right? There were many more females that were prettier than I was, or smarter, or better for future breeding. I'm nothing special. I have to find out who he is and why didn't he have mask on.

I couldn't help but think about the Alpha on everyone's mind. His ice-blue eyes were on me and but I must say who this Alpha be  on everyone mind. Then I saw him again through window, his bright eyes left that area, and instead rested on me.

I could feel my head dart away so fast I could almost feel the crack. A felt a blush rise onto my pale cheeks, and I immediately looked for a distraction. Emily , who I could spot due to her colorful white dress, was talking to a handsome gentlemen who appeared to be a bit higher up in the ranks. He could have been the Omega, but I wasn't sure. Either way, I couldn't go talk to her to avoid the luminous stare of Mysteries Alpha .

Despite the fact that he was more handsome than any other potential mate, I never would want to be his. I hoped that some male would come up to talk to me, to at least show that I was pretty enough.  "Hello, babe," I turned on my heel to find a thin, dark haired werewolf. Babe? I thought. "Noticed you from across the room. You're absolutely stunning," I smiled shyly.
"Thank you," I wasn't quite sure how to compliment him, or what to compliment him on if I could. He had a strange looking goatee that didn't quite fit his thin, grey face, and his dark eyes didn't show much kindness. He was only a few inches taller than me.
"Let's cut to the chase. I'm Geremy Holster. Let's get out of here and I'll show you what it'll be like to be my bride, what do you say?" His eyes glinted with malice, and I stepped back.
"No, thank you..." I said softly, fear showing in my voice.
"Come on, it'll be fun," his long fingers wrapped around my wrist and I wanted to scream, but I didn't want to bring unwanted attention to myself. Before I could say anything, his hand was yanked from my wrist. Suddenly, Geremy was shoved to the floor.
By my dad. Why did my dad do this?.

I gasped and stepped backward. The thin, strange werewolf yelped as he fell and hit a nearby table, where wine spilled from the glass and on top of him. His matted hair stuck to his face. "Leave!" My dad's voice boomed, Geremy Holster sprung up from his spot on the floor and scurried to the door like a rat. I held my right hand to my rapidly beating heart and took a deep breath. The whole ballroom was silent, everyone staring at Alpha and I like we were foreign. However, that silence didn't last long.
The hall door suddenly slammed open, and about two dozen men in dark tuxedos and mask on walked in, led by a tall man with messy dark brown hair and ice-blue eyes and half of gold mask. The leader was no more than twenty, and he gave a smirk along with a chuckle. "Hello,Valerie . Cat got your tongue?"
What the Alpha said next was enough to put the rest of the hall in a panic:

                          "Nightshade Pack."
