Chapter 12 - The Snow of the Northern Spirit

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mace's POV -

"Let's begin" I heard my mom said and I was practically squealing inside.

All five of us were in the five tiny circle designated for us to stand on. And of course, we held each other's hand while waiting for my mom to prepare the scroll. As soon as she threw the scroll at the dead center and quickly held our hands from one end to another, she muttered some words in another language that I couldn't understand.

All four of us looked at her in awe as we saw her skin glow light green veins travel from her eyes to her arms. She continued to mutter some words I couldn't understand and suddenly, the scroll at the center started to float and unroll itself as words on it started shining light blue.

The light shining from it was mesmerizing, if not then there is no words to describe it. It was memorable and at the same time, amazing. It's the first I see magic with light shows happen before me. Soon after, the light coming from the scroll was now spewing tiny balls of light into the air as they circle and fly around in random direction until finally the scroll finally stopped producing them.

There were hundreds of thousands of them flying everywhere like fireflies. Soon they started to join together in a massive swarm surrounding us in the group. They flew around us touching us lightly and I felt the tiny exhaustion hit me but it was barely noticable for me. As they kept making contact with our skin, they seemed to glow brighter than before.

"Wow..." I said in awestruck.

"It's amazing" Xavier agreed chuckling.

"They feel so warm and they're emanating something... I can't describe it..." I said with a frown. The feeling was comforting, but at the same time confusing.

"I know... the same for us..." Xavier said nodding to both his parents and they nodded as well.

"What you're feeling is the flow of magic" my mom told us. "Humans have them, but not enough to be noticable. All creature have magic in them, but they all vary in amount. Like werewolves, they have magic but not enough to completely control them, only at varying levels" she explained.

"And the exhaustion?" I asked.

"They're taking magic from us to use it on the magic circle" she said.

"What happens if we run out?" I asked worriedly.

"No one runs out of magic. We naturally recreate the lost ones" she chuckled. "However, if you ever lose all of them, you wouldn't be able to live longer unless someone gives some to you" she said strictly.

I gulped. "This world have a great abundance of magic, it's mainly used to balance out the corruption and decay" she further explained, "the excess magic is used freely for any magical creatures that can't use their own magic"

"Like us" I said questioningly.

"Yes and no" she said and that got me even confused. "As druid, we have decent capacity of magic within us, and we can fairly generate them fairly quickly in an hour. However, if we somehow need more magic, which I doubt it, we can freely use the magic in the air and will it"

That makes sense. "So, these glowing orbs thingy" Xavier said, "they're taking magic from us, should we be worried?"

My mother shook her head. "Not at all, werewolves have a small amount of magic in them. But, these magic orbs are taking tiny amount that should affects you guys as much. The touching means that they're absorbing magic that is present near the top of your skin"
