Chapter 17 - Hell on high heels

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Xavier's POV -

It's already morning and Mace still hasn't woken up ever since the green glow emanated from him last night. Even though Mary has explained to me what happened, it still worries me. What if he stays like this longer than I expected? What if he never wakes up?

I couldn't help myself but think of the worst things that could happen. Now, here I am on my bed with Mace besides me in his sleeping or unconscious state curled to my chest. He's still breathing, but hes not as much other than few twitches and whimpers.

When I spoke to Mary, she told me of stories of druids with unique abilities. It was quite rare, she explained, but not unheard of amongst them in the past. And apparently, Mace is one of the druids with unique abilities. The ability to look into people's memory.

At first, they didn't know what was happening to Mace when he was kid glowing from time to time when he falls asleep between his parents, that is until Mace talked about a peculiar dream that is a secret between Mary and Richard that no one else knows about.

They don't what the exact trigger for it, but emotions played a role for making it occur. Now the next problem about Mace's ability is the control. They haven't really tried to control it, and they're nowhere near knowing where to start.

"Haaaaaa~..." I let out a sigh. A million thoughts running through my head. I need to stop worrying too often or I'm getting worry lines. I looked over to the clock and it was only six in the morning, two more hours until school starts.

"C'mon Mace," I whispered, "Wake up" I ran my hand over his hair. "I don't want to deal with school without you there"

At that moment, a low green glow emanated underneath his eyelids. He stirred a little in my arm, stretching his limbs as he groaned and went back into a comfortable position snuggled close to my chest.

'I guess he's back' I thought. 'Now I wonder what he dreamt about Tammy, I really need to know'

"Mace?" I whispered to him but receive no response. "C'mon baby, wake up for me" I raised my voice a little.

"No" he simply said pouting before going back to sleep.

"Oh no you're not" I said moving away from him.

"No!" he whined opening his eyes. "I want my warmth back" he quickly rubbed his eyes trying to wake up.

I chuckled at him quickly going back to his sides. "You know, you had me worried after passing out like that in the car"

"I'm sorry..." he murmured against my neck letting out a long sigh. "I can't believe he died like that..."

"Who died?" I asked looking at him confused.

"Ben," he said, "he died protecting Tammy from the knife flying towards her"

"It's him wasn't it?" I said, "The guy I killed last night?" he nodded. "Do you know why he killed him?" and this time he shook his head.

"I don't know, the man just said, 'at least it’s enough'" he said, "I don't know what he meant by that and then he just vanished when the smoke covered him"

I sighed. I guess there's nothing to learn from that memory. "We need something more, we need to learn about this damned war..."

"At least we finally know who's trying to capture me," he said reassuringly with a small smile but I just stared at him. "Okay, there is nothing good or bad about that, but we can warn others"
