(Y/N)'s POV
"Today's games are finished,so we're all headed to individual practice, but you should really go with the managers instead," Tetsuro tells me, stretching his arms above his head.
"I'd rather tag along with you guys if you don't mind," I smile glancing around at the team, "You'll all be lost without at least one manager."
Testsuro rolls his eyes before throwing his water bottle at me, "Well then manager, do your job."
I mutter under my breath before following behind him and the white haired boy Bokuto. I struggle to keep up with their huge strides, and find myself falling behind.
"You sure are slow!" A voice behind me exclaims, making me jump.
I turn around to face the green eyed Lev, who starts to walk beside me, "Only a little," I smile, tilting my head up to face him.
He walks the rest of the way with me to the second gym, before parting ways.
"Thanks for walking me," I wave goodbye to him as he leaves towards the dining hall.
I head inside, walking straight over to a familiar blonde hitter.
"Hey Tsukishima," I smile, giving him a quick arm punch before looking around at everyone else in the gym. Its mostly Nekoma players, but Bokuto and Akaashi are here too.
"What are you doing here?" He grumbles sounding just as annoyed as usual.
"I came to help out," I shrug, "and avoid kitchen duty."
"Some manager you are," he scoffs, turning away, and heading towards Kenma.
I shrug him off before handing Testsuro his now filled water bottle.
"Good job," he cheesily grins, "Now you can-"
"Now I can play with you guys," I grin, pulling my volleyball shoes out from behind my back.
"I hope you're ready to loose," he sighs, "You'll play with Bokuto and Akaashi."
---
"YEAHHH!" The white haired hitter shouts after scoring the winning hit, "WE DID IT!"
I can't help but laugh as he throws his hands above his head, still cheering. I don't know what it is about Bokuto, but something has me cheering for him no matter what.
"Can you stop," Akashi sighs quietly, heading off the court.
Bokuto runs over to me, giving me a hard slap on the back, "You're really good! Probably better than most of the boys on your team," he laughs, "Thanks for playing (L/N)-chan!"
"You're welcome Bokuto," I smile, half-wincing from the painfully hard slap he gave me.
"If you guys don't hurry up you'll miss dinner," a voice from the doorway shouts.
We all turn to see one of the pretty brown haired managers, waiting patiently by the door, "Alright, we'll be right there," Tetsuro replies, ushering everyone out of the gym.
I take my place alongside Tsukishima as we leave, staring up at his cold glance behind his glasses. He turns his face downwards to me, giving me his usual scowl.
"If you don't make up with your boyfriend we're all screwed," he grumbles, "The King can't manage to separate volleyball from your drama."
I shrug him off, it's not my fault, but I know he's right. I know I have to do something about this eventually, but part of me isn't ready to give in yet.
Kageyama's POV
(F/N) hasn't showed up for dinner yet, but then again we're still missing a few boys. I wonder if she has anything to do with that-
"I'll play with you guys again just let me know," (F/N) laughs, her smile wide and toothy as she enters the dining hall. Her hair sits on top of her head in a messy bun, as little wisps of (h/c) hair fall into her face, sweat dots the edges of her face, and even if she hadn't already said it, I would've known she'd been playing.
I bite the inside of my cheek, resisting the urge to wave to her, pushing her name further down my throat refusing to let it escape my mouth.
Suddenly, she stops, and her (e/c) eyes connect with mine as my stomach does a flip. Her stare isn't cruel or angry as it was before. Now it's changed. It's blank, open, like she's almost to the point of forgiveness. She gives a slight tilt of her head asking me "what now?".
I return the gesture with a small shrug, and point towards the door with my eyes. She nods before heading over to grab herself a tray of food and begin eating.
"What was that?" Hinata asks beside me, referring to (F/N).
"Nothing," I mutter, shoveling food into my mouth before I can respond to another line of questioning.
•••
"So..?" She asks me, still facing out towards the dark tree line.
"So..." I repeat, unsure of what she wants to hear.
"Tobio, you always make things so damn hard," she laughs dryly, still not facing me.
I stand beside her now, taking her in, every detail, wondering if she'll ever let me near her again depending on where this goes.
"Even when we were kids, nothing was simple," she sighs, "you never gave anything up easy."
"And what am I supposed to be giving up now?" I ask, feeling confused and two steps behind her.
She finally turns to face me, as I feel my breath catch in my throat. There it is. That striking look she gives, making everything stop.
"Tell me this Tobio," she starts, "if I were to leave, never come back, run away forever, where would that leave you?"
I stop to think, a world without (Y/N), I roll the thought around in my head before opening my mouth to answer.
"Let me tell you where," she swallows, "Still playing volleyball, still learning how to get along with people, still making enemies at every corner, everything would be the same, only now you'd be without the naive little girl two steps behind you."
I try to grab her, wrap her in a hug before she can say anymore nonsense, but she pulls back.
"But the thing is, I can't pull away, no matter how much I know I'll get hurt if I stick around. And that's why I'm going to forgive you, and why I'm going to keep forgiving you."
"You won't have to-"
"We both know that's not true," she laughs flatly, "I'll forgive you as many times as I have to, because Kageyama Tobio I love you."
Everything in the world stops, but this time it pauses for longer than usual, as an intense energy runs my body, suddenly I can't move, can't think, can't breathe, but the unavoidable urge to hold (Y/N) tears through me. And I can't stop myself from reaching out towards her. Even when she moves back I think a step ahead, pulling her into my arms. I place my head in the crook of her neck, and whisper back to her, what I'd realized she wanted to hear all along.
