sorry, for the delay for this [crappy] chapter, more on why will be stated at the end of this chapter.

this is an AU, in which the death of Leo's mother still happened but in a slightly different way. and you both live as mortals.

---

For four years, you and Leo Valdez were in a very healthy relationship. You both showed each other love and support every minute you spent together.

You were both always there for the other, in the darkest times.

But for you, it was a bit difficult. Ever since Leo's mother died all those years ago, Leo was a changed person. He told you that, before, he was a very optimistic, confident person.

But now, he was more doubtful in his abilities, and more anxious. Yet, for you, he still smiled and made those jokes that made you laugh until you couldn't breath.

But even behind the good times, Leo was broken.

You would find him in your guys' bedroom (in the apartment you both shared), isolated and crying. It would take you minutes, sometimes hours, to calm him down.

Every time you caught him, he'd be holding onto a picture of his mother and himself, just staring at it with his eyes blanket than a white sheet of paper.

He'd always mutter how he was at fault for her death, some he wasn't there to protect and support her. You told him differently, but he'd just shake his head and continue to mutter to himself.

All those nights, you managed to calm him down and send him to sleep. But on one particular evening, it was the worst it could ever be.

- your point of view -

It was very late at night, nearing the beginning of a new day. i had stayed awake to finish some household (well apartment) duties, including cleaning and washing the dishes.

After the final speck of food was wiped from the last plate, I set it onto it's usual shelf and walked towards the bedroom I shared with Leo.

He hadn't broken down for the past 2 weeks, which was a good sign that he could be getting over the trauma.

I walked up our single staircase and walked down the quiet, dimly lit hallways (we had installed small lights so we didn't fall down the stairs at night).

I let out a breath I didn't even know I was holding, and turned towards the door. The atmosphere felt odd, but I ignored the feelings and slowly opened the door, in case Leo was asleep.

What I found, was nothing but a unfortunate, normal sight; Leo sitting on the bed, letting his tears spill onto his mother's photographed face.

I sighed, softly closed the door behind me, and walked towards the bed.

I could hear the familiar sniffles and sobs coming from Leo across the bedroom. I crossed my arms and lightly cleared my throat.

Leo glances up, his eyes bloodshot and his lips quivering. His hair was messier than usual, and he had dark bags under his eyes.

I gulped and asked, "Are you okay?" He quickly looked at the picture and let out a loud sob. I quickened my pace and sat down beside him.
