"Sherlock Homes and John Watson are soulmates and no one can convince me otherwise," Alexa threw a marker at me with one hand while she browsed her phone with the other.
"Are you talking about that thing again?" I asked, chucking the marker back at her with a little more force.
"If by 'that thing' you mean the greatest goddamn show on this goddamn planet then yes," she set down her phone and sent the marker flying back at me, hitting me straight in the forehead.
"You bitch!" I laughed, jumping up and preparing for the ultimate marker showdown!
"Oh you're on," Alexa stuck the markers together and made a sword, then brought it behind her shoulder like a baseball bat. Her eyes were playful as she smirked and took a step towards me. I yelped and jumped over to the other side of the couch. Alexa had been on the softball team since elementary school and she had a mean swing.
"Can you guys FOCUS?!" Emilee shouted at us. We were supposed to be helping her make posters for senior class campaign but Alexa and I had been messing around after we finished our first poster. You couldn't really blame us though, Alexa and I would murder and bury anyone who crossed Emilee but we weren't really good at monotonous tasks.
That's why we started the marker war.
"We need to get these posters done and up in the hallways by tomorrow morning so please help!" Emilee looked at us with pleading eyes. Alexa and I glanced at each other before sighing.
"Sorry Em," I apologized.
"Yeah, I'm sorry too," Alexa flipped some of her short hair over her shoulder and sat back down on the floor, "but to be totally fair, Lilah started it."
"HEY!"
-
"Okay, so I charted out the perfect places to put the posters," Emilee shoved a piece of paper at me as she got out of her car. Why she was giving it to me was a mystery because chances were I'd lose the damn thing but I trusted that it was only a copy. Emilee was nothing if not prepared.
"Alright, I'll take the second floor if you take the ground floor," I said as I stepped out of the car. It was just us this morning because Alexa had an early workout with some of the girls from the softball team.
"Sounds good." Emilee reached into the back seat and grabbed half of the posters. After she yelled at us for goofing off we got a ton of work done and there were at least fifteen posters ready to be hung up. "Make sure they don't fly away."
I pretty much ate my curly hair as the wind whipped it around my face. The wind became too much as I opened the back door on my side and I lost control, sending it into the car next to us.
There was a mind numbing crunch and my mouth dropped open. Please for the love of everything that is good in the world let it be okay!
I slowly turned around and came face to face with one giant, horrible, utterly AWFUl, scratch on the pitch black sports car. My brain slowly started to process what happened and I furiously tried to scrub the mark off.
"Shit, shit, shit, shit..." I cursed under my breath.
"Lilah?" Emilee moved to my side of the car and froze in shock. We looked at each other in silent horror as the owner of the car popped into our heads.
I could feel my heart pumping and I said my last goodbyes.
Something moved out of the corner of my eye and I tuned to see a furious Will Taylor running towards the car I had defaced.
"WHAT THE FUCKING HELL ARE YOU DOING TO MY CAR?!" He roared. The wind only seemed to amplify his anger as he crouched down to inspect his baby.
"It was an accident-" I started to explain.
"I don't care if it's an accident, I expect payment!" His eyes looked like hell froze over and they only scared me more.
"I'd pay you but I'm kinda strapped for cash right now so maybe we could have like a payment plan or something," I suggested.
"If you were a guy I'd punch you so hard right now," he growled.
"Kinda sexist but whatever," I mumbled.
"What?" Will snapped his head at me so quickly I was sure he broke his neck. I glanced at Em for assistance but she was completely stiff, just watching the whole ordeal.
What a helpful friend.
"Is there anything else I could do besides pay you?" I asked. He slowly stood up, a dark shadow crossing his face (what was he? An anime villain?) and I was pretty sure he was gonna punch my face in, despite his previous statement.
I closed my eyes and braced for impact but instead I heard someone call out to us.
"William! There you are!"
Mr. Howard, an English teacher that everyone loved, calmly jogged over to us, "I came back from the bathroom and had no idea where you went off to," turning to face Em and me he let out one of his famous dimpled smiles, "I didn't know you guys were friends."
"We're not," Will muttered but Mr. H didn't hear it over the wind. Or he chose to ignore it.
"Well let's get back inside and continue our study session," he led Will away from us and I could finally breathe, "see you girls later!"
Emilee and I stood still as our panic slowly started to subside.
"You're so dead."
