ch 5

I start searching around the store to see if she could be hiding from me. I started making clicker noises so she could be moved from her spot. Nowhere to be found. I won't be finding her for a while I suppose. I move my head around to scan the area around me. Dark and quiet, some tiles on the ceiling look like they're missing. It looks like the sun is starting to set, I have to find Riley now.

RILEY'S P.O.V.

"I can't believe Ellie would do such a fucking thing," I mutter to myself. I just made my way out of the store. "She had me terrified!"

I feel bad for leaving Ellie in the store, but I just need time away from her for a while. It's pretty dark out. The sky is dark blue with speckles of bright stars, and the moon shining down like a big spotlight. I've never taken the time to cherish how beautiful the night can be.

I take out my flashlight and turn it on so I can see where I'm going. I suspect it's around eight or nine o'clock. Since Ellie and I were bitten, we don't ever want to return. We could just make our own camp here, out in the wild. Find our own food, survive together. That is, if one of us doesn't storm out and leave high and dry.

I come across a small lake, doesn't look too deep. I get in and just stand in there for a while to gather my thoughts. I pick up a small pebble and look at the features. Small and round, very smooth. It's white with a small hint of brown from where it's been in the water and dirt. There are tiny holes too, water erosion I guess.

This is the second time I've left Ellie, I hope she doesn't take it like I don't want to see her ever again. She's a great girl, my best friend at that. Even more, too. I guess I should start heading back to find her.

I step out of the lake, and track back my footprints. How long had I walked? It doesn't feel like I'd walked for long. The sun was about to set when I left, and now the sun is totally set, nowhere to be seen. After another hour I'm back in the store.

"Ellie? Are you in here? I'm sorry that I left you!"

Ellie didn't answer me.
