This will be difficult for me to write. The concept of reliving this horrific experience is something I would not wish on my worst enemy. I am sharing my story on behalf of my love, Noah Thomson, who was murdered by the terrible practices at Sacred Hearts Sanatorium. Even with the awful things Nick has done, he would want our story to be told so nothing like this happens to an innocent person, like myself, again. I want to expose this place not only for what they did to me, but for what they did to my mentally ill companion, Nick. Yes, he was a killer, but there are others in that place who are being treated like wild animals. This place was Hell on Earth, and it is time we put an end to all of this madness, torture and anarchy. Along with exposing the truth of Sacred Hearts, this novel is here to teach a lesson. That lesson is; love can make you do and think crazy things. With Nick, there was so much love and that love drove me to think he was deserving of being out in the real world, but the truth was that he needed to be in a sanitarium to get the proper help he needed. He did not deserve to be killed by those horrid doctors, but he did deserve to be locked up. That was one thing I did not realize when he was still alive.
Three children were killed in a span of a week and Nick was caught on the fifteenth of October, 1975. Everybody thought there was no reason he should have killed. He grew up in a stable home with parents who treated him and his three younger siblings like royalty. I never knew why either until I met him. He hears things. Things that are not there. He tells me people are coming to take his brain, his knowledge of who knows what. Schizophrenia. It takes over your body and soon you turn to mush and can't control it.
October 3, 1975. Journal entry- Nick Thomson.
I did not mean to.
I really did love her.
They told me to do it.
They would have taken her; drilled in her head and scooped her brain out.
This is all we have from Nick the night he committed the first of many crimes. I know he never had an intention to kill, but they took total control over him that night. Nick murdered his sister with a kitchen knife, with a blade as dull as his own heart. He was not the same after he killed. His heart turned to ice, his brain to sludge and his body into a zombie.
Nick did not want to kill, but with his imaginary people chasing him he was driven to insanity.
Nick had schizophrenia and that meant he saw or heard things that were not there. He has created this whole other life inside his head that he lives through. In this life, Nick had an affiliation with the government. He was high up and knew everything there is to know about the government and what was really going on. In reality, Nick was just a mentally ill man whose illness took control over him. In his world, he quit being involved in the government and he now is being controlled by them, which he describes to me in detail when we meet, who want to take his brain and pick out all of the information he has about his involvement in the government. These people are working against our government. This is why he is so afraid of them. That is why he killed those kids.
October 5, 1975.
"The body of 7-year-old Mayland was discovered in an abandoned park, hanging from the swings. Police have yet to find any fingerprints other than her own on her body, and they are continuing their investigation today by interrogating members of the community."
Nick watched the news in silence. All he could think about was them coming and asking for more. More murders, more death, more control.
He continued his days as normal as he could; not raising any suspicion towards himself and acting as if he really missed his sister. He did not want to kill, but all that was in his mind was his own safety. Safety from them. He wanted them to leave and when they left, so did Mayland. She left this Earth. His hands were clammy all day and he could not help it. Continuously wiping them on his jeans whenever he had to shake someone's hand. Along with the discovery of his sister, the family had decided to have an impromptu funeral, inviting everyone in the community to attend. As Nick walked toward the funeral home, his mind went blank, with his palms, head and neck sweating, he hesitantly walked inside. You could taste the sorrow that filled the room.
Just sit and be calm, he thought to himself. Nick sat next to his mother while the ceremony was going on and thirty minutes in he started seeing glimpses of a figure standing at the end of the row, staring at him.
Just ignore them. They cannot do anything unless you let them. Sweat dripped from his forehead, moving down to his mouth and sinking into his dry lips. The figure started walking towards him and before he knew it there were ten, then twenty, then thirty. Nick ran out of the church hall and into the cold October air. He heard the drill coming from behind him.
"They are going steal my brain!" he screamed. Nick ran for an hour before he was able to escape them. He decided that this was the time to never go home again. To never go back to the place where they could find him. Without a plan and without money, he slept for weeks in the streets of Boston and then he came upon the home of his next victim.
It was the ninth of October 1975 and Nick was approaching the house of the Miller's. An innocent family with sons 12 and 6. They were the unlucky ones that night as Nick was met by them and ordered to kill. The two boys were found the next morning with their heads cut open, blood pouring out, and a note that said "they were going to take their brains, so I made it impossible for them." This note was written by Nick Thompson and that is what led to his capture.
He was captured on October 15, 1975 and he was 19 years old and I was 21. I was so fascinated by his story and by Sacred Heart that it seemed like an interesting idea to try and sneak in and meet Nick Thompson, yet little did I know I would get a little closer to him than I expected.
