I drag him up the stairs. I couldn't wait to explore. It might me crazy but why not? When would be the next time we would be able to do these things. The stairs creaked under our weight. I led Budo to the first door I saw. I opened it and peered inside. The bathroom. Boring. I closed the door. Next I opened the door to my right. A guest bedroom. I led Budo inside.
"A little empty dontcha think?" He says.
I nod, examining the bedspread. It had a stain on it. It was copper colored. Almost like dried blood . . .
"Hey! Look at this!"
Budo's voice jerk me from my thoughts. I follow his voice out of the room, only looking back to glance at the stain on the bedspread. I hear him in the next room so I walk inside. The sight I see is enough to bring me to tears. I gasp.
The room was . . . beautiful.
The room was a painter's studio and the paintings that adorned the walls were so ornate with pictures of flowers and buildings and everything in between. The floor was covered in drops of paint and pallets. Paintbrushes were laid askew across the floor. I walked around admiring the beautiful art. On one part of the wall was a mural picturing a colorful forest. The hues of green and yellow amazed me.
"It must be Taro's mothers'" Budo says examining the art.
"Probably. But, it seems like she left in a hurry," I say motioning to the brushes across the floor.
He nods. "Let's go check out the next room," He heads towards the door and I follow him but, looking longingly at the fine art. We walk across the hallway into a room on the right. We opened the door to find a typical teen's room. Taro's room. We walk inside.
The walls were adorned with posters of video games and music. The room was rather messy. The bed was unmade and there were clothes and papers left on the carpeted floor. I also noticed how rotten it smelled. Ugh disgusting.
Budo walk towards the closet. "Might as well snoop," He says as he opens the closet. A rancid odor is released into the air causing us both to recoil. Inside the closet was a shrine of . . . ME. Just the sight of it made me sick. Budo backed away. "Oh. My. God." He says covering his mouth. The closet wall was covered in a collage of photos of me. Photos of me naked, in my bedroom, in the school locker room, and pretty much everywhere. Then, I realized where the odor was coming from. Taro had smeared blood over and around the photos. It seemed to be there for a long time causing it to rot. I froze. I felt like I couldn't move. I was looking in a mirror. I used to be like that. Budo froze too.
A sudden freezing cold came over me. A shiver rolled up my spine. What is that?! I turn around as rapidly as I can.
"Hello my darling," Taro whispers.
He is covered in blood. It looks like his arm is broken. I can see a trail of bloody footsteps behind him. He has a knife in his hand. He is twitching like crazy. I back up a few steps.
"Why did you leave me darling? I thought you loved me," He steps closer. I don't respond.
"And you had to leave with this coward," He points his knife at Budo. "I'll have to get rid of him. So we can have our alone time," He smirks at me, his teeth covered in blood.
In one swift moment he grabs Budo's neck and pulls him to the ground. He plunges the knife into Budo's heart, letting the blood spurt out of the wound before stabbing again repeatedly. I can't move. Then suddenly something inside me snaps.
I push Taro off of Budo but Taro gets up and pushes me against his closet door. I stare into his eyes. All the humanity in them is gone. "Don't interrupt me during my work darling," He plunges the hilt of the knife and everything goes black.
