Her dark eyes stared at me, gripping my hand as if it was her lifeline. "I'm scared." Her voice sounded broken, and nothing I could say would help. And it felt like a punch to the gut. I gently drew my other hand up, caressing her dark brunette locks behind her ear. "I know, kitten." I tried to sound reassuring, failing miserably as my voice wavered. "We'll get through this." I watched as those dark chocolate orbs began to water up, her eyelashes casting reflections across her face. Her lip quivered, a shiver running through her body and into mine. "Promise?" Her voice cracked, quickly shutting her mouth shut as her wide eyes gazed at me like I was the most important thing in the world. I smiled bitterly, leaning forwards to press a kiss against her forehead, my words weak and full of empty promises as they mumbled against her skin. "I promise."
