I heard a voice calling my name, in a sweet, caring tone. I ran towards the direction of the melodious sound, only to realize that it was everywhere. I tried to reachout and feel the music, only to feel the soft breeze graze my hand. When I finally realized that my pursuit was nothing more than a wild groosling chase, I sat down in the center of this lush meadow I was in. It was at that moment that I saw her... My sister!

She sat down beside me and told me not to worry, she was happy now. For just a brief moment, I swelled with joy. I was finally with her again, the moment I had dreamed of for five years. She reached out and took my hand. I couldn't stop myself from crying. I was with her now.

                              .........................................................................

I woke up, dreanched in my warm, sticky sweat. I had dreamed of her again, but thats all it was, a dream. My own mind had fooled me into believing that I had a chance of happiness, but that was all just a fantasy.

I got up from my bed and headed towards my dresser, until I remembered that I had to wear my best clothes today, since it was the reaping. Even though I knew that the odds of my name being pullled were slim, I still dreaded reapings. They had taken the lives of hundreds of children, so senslessly and cruelly.

I put on my button-up shirt and my grey trousers. If only the capitol didn't feel the need to have their stupid reapings, my life would be much better, I thought to myself.

I stomped down the stairs, hoping that mother would have breakfast ready. She didn't, of course. She was probably out with some friends, telling them that she wished that I would be reaped. She still sees it as an honor, even after losing her  daughter in the games.

I was contemplating if I should just make my own breakfast when I heard a knocking on the door. "Come in!" I shouted, not caring who it was.

"Well, hey there," I heard a familiar voice say. I turned around and came face to face with Lacy, who was one of my two only friends.

"Hey, man. Let's just get out there and hope we don't get called on, coop," My other friend Josh said. I walked up to them both, not smiling at Josh's lame joke.

"Yeah, lets just hope we don't get called on. Because thats such a funny thing to say to the guy who lost his sister in the games!" I shouted. Lacy took a step back, but Josh just rolled his eyes.

"I feel sorry for you, Coop. I really do. But you seem to forget that when you lost a sister, I lost a girlfriend," Josh said. His words were true, of couse. He and my sister were just one year apart, until Josh got transferred to my sister's grade. There was always a bond between them, but nobody would have guessed that the most popular girl in school would fall for the brainy kid.

But she did, and thats how I met Josh. After a while, he would come by our house every day. He was just as devastated as I was when she died. He stopped coming by for a while, until he had healed somewhat from the tragic loss.

"I'm sorry, Josh," I said sincerly.  "I just got a little carried away. You know how much I hate reapings," I said. Josh walked over to me and put a hand on my shoulder.
