Ryder

My family and I just got to the party ten minutes ago and I was already feeling out of place. We were all standing at a table, talking with others and waiting for Mr. and Mrs. Reynolds' to arrive.

"Smile Ryder. Remember what I said, be on your best behavior tonight. A lot of eyes are going to be on you this entire event so be polite and respectful and please don't do anything stupid." My father muttered as he held a smile on his face, waving at other guests.

"When will Mr. and Mrs. Reynolds' be here? I'm honestly not in the best mood tonight, I have a lot on my mind," I replied. It was true though, I did have a lot on my mind and the attention was not helping. I felt uncomfortable and I just wanted to be alone. I could tell that everyone was judging me, some looked at me hatefully and others out of pity and I didn't need that. I was afraid to approach Jessica's parents, this would be the first time I would actually speak to them since that night. I felt guilty and so stupid and I really did want to apologize, I just didn't know how to.

These past two nights I've been beating myself up for not finding the right words to say to them. What was I suppose to say? oh hey Mr. and Mrs. Reynolds' I'm so sorry for breaking your daughters heart. I just realized how much of an asshole I've been and I know how it feels to be cheated on....there was really nothing I could say to show how truly sorry I was and sounding sincere at the same time.

"Well well well, look who we have here," a familiar voice called out. I balled up my hands, my blood boiling. I looked up and faced the devil himself.

"Look here young man, I think it's in your best interest t-" my dad began before I cut him off.

"Kyle, you should really back off before I do something I regret." I threatened. The bastard actually had the audacity to smirk at me. I looked to my left and saw that Hannah had disappeared by my side, I looked to my right and saw that she was now hiding behind my parents who looked just as angry as I felt. I peaked over at Hannah and saw that there were tears forming in her eyes and that really rilled me up more.

"Hey now, there is no need for violence. I am just here to talk to Hannah, that's all." He replied.

"Over. My. Dead. Body." If it was up to me that guy would already be beaten to a pulp, but since I made a promise to my parents, I knew I had to control myself.

"Fine. I guess we can speak here. Look Hannah, I'm really sorry for hurting you, but I realized I just didn't want to be tied down. It was fun while it lasted, but I've moved on and it's time you did the same." Kyle stated before walking off with a smile on my face. I heard a sob and turned around to see Hannah running out of the room and down the hall. I was about to run after her but my mom put her hand on my chest and shook her head and followed my sister out instead.

I looked around and if everyone's eyes weren't already on us before, they were definitely on us now. I wish everyone would just mind their own damn business and leave us alone.

"I'm going to go get us some drinks, I definitely need one." My dad announced before he patted me on the shoulder and walked away. Once he left, I saw Jake and Dan walking towards me.

"Hey man, we just saw Hannah run out." Jake said.

"Yeah, it looked like she was crying. Did something happened?" Dan asked as he glanced towards the main doors where Hannah had just ran out from.

"It's nothing, don't worry about it." I sighed as I took deep breaths, trying to calm myself down. Dan and Jake both just nodded and I was thankful that they didn't ask anymore questions.
