Here we stand, witnessing in silence,
Chronicling the weight of countless years
Praying that you might look off the corner of your eye and see us...
Wretched things, longing for nothing but terror.
Slaves to our desires and skewed vision
Looking back on all we've said and done
Sipping blood from flutes of crafted glass
Pretending to be human...
We are but beasts
But what a wonderful menagerie under this roof tonight!
Fang and claw, slithering tongue and hiss,
Some of us wishing you'd come at us
with songs sung in silver slivers,
As to hurt us.
We love to hear those tales of intent
Your struggle to push us back
to the darkness where we came from.
Can you hear? We drag our iron chains
Pretending they are golden trophies,
Smiling with closed mouths, capturing your
Attention, making you fix on eyes that
Saw the fall of paradise and lips that will
Rob your currency of life with just a single kiss.
And even as we tell you this you'll dance, enthralled
To the steady beat of gore and death
Extending the tips of your fingers to trace the shape
Of an unknown face, for you must know how it is,
Even if it costs your soul and breath,
How does it feel to visit, as in a waking dream,
A world that's is comprised of
glamour and grotesque.
