Clary's POV
I'd just showed up at the institute just 2 weeks ago, when I found out about the shadow life. My memories gone, and my mom still missing, I was starting to feel the realization of my situation. I shook my head and my thoughts jumbled, I had to stay focused so I could go on this mission and prove myself to the Clave that I wasn't in league with Valentine. I threw on my gear and walked to training where Jace was going to teach me the basic skills. I passed the kitchen where Isabelle was, unsuccessfully, trying to cook something for lunch. I smiled and waved but kept walking. I finally made it to the training room. I looked in and locked eyes with Jace. After my first encounter with Valentine, I wanted to make sure I was well trained with him still out there. I just didn't enjoy the idea of Jace instructing me. During that encounter, Jace and I had found out that we were brother and sister. This wouldn't have been so bad, except that we were falling in love. I moved forward towards my brother and smiled. He smiled back.
"Ready to begin training?" Jace asked.
"I guess so." I responded with a laugh.
"The most important thing to remember when fighting is to always hold your seraph blade like this..." He started to show me but I all of a sudden got a vision and I was pulled into Valentines world. He looked at me.
"Ah, Clarissa. How nice to see you again. I understand that you're trying to learn some stuff from your brother as of right now, but I thought it to be appropriate to tell you. Your mother. She's dying. I've been trying to save her, but she just won't wake up. I believe that you, dear, are the antidote. Come find me sometime this week, or I'll be forced to end her suffering. The address to my location will be placed into your head. Now go back to learning, Clarissa, and have fun with what's to come." He smiled his awful smile and the image started to fade. I expected to wake up, but as soon as I started to see light, it faded away, and before I knew it, I was unconscious.

Jace's POV
"The most important thing to remember when fighting is to always hold your seraph blade like this..." I started to demonstrate how to hold it, but just after my sentence, Clary collapsed. I hadn't done anything to her, and there was no one withing sight. I shook her.
"Clary?!" I shook her a little harder but all she did was groan. I leaned back and sighed, I thought she was waking up. But any of my hopes dwindled when she fell still and silent once again. What do I do? I may be a trained shadowhunter, but I'm not good when there are no injuries. No iratze could fix this.
"Isabelle! Alec! Come quick!" I yelled their names, hoping that they'd know what to do. I listened for footsteps and in seconds I heard a few pairs coming this way. I looked up just as Alec ran in with Izzy right behind him.
"Jace what happened?" Alec slid down on his knees next to me and examined Clary. Looking her over for any signs of injury.
"I honestly don't know Alec, I was explaining how to use the seraph blade when she just collapsed."
"Just collapsed?" He asked.
"Just collapsed." I repeated.
"I'll go get help." Isabelle looked on confused but ran out of the training room. Alec picked her up and followed after Izzy. I stood up, took a deep breath, and followed both of them.
