Rocky Mountains make Rocky Relationships

I tapped my foot against the gas pump. Percy was somewhere in the gas station, buying some waters, and probably a giant heap of candy bars for himself.

Great.

I checked my watch. 6:34. What was taking him so long? I walked towards the back door, hoping to see him stuffing his face secretly. Instead, I heard him talking to someone invisible, probably on his phone.
"Look, I-"
He was cut off. I couldn't make out the words the person said, but I could hear shouting.
"Fine. I'm in the Rocky Mountains now. Just a couple of more days. I promise."
I gulped and ran back to the car. Percy stepped in, not a moment later.
"Hey." He said quietly.
"Hey. What took you so long?" I asked.
"Hmmm? Oh, just a person in distress." He joked.
"Super man to save the day, right?"
"Right." He said, grinning.
I leaned my head against the cool glass window. My mind was running off to a million places, and I couldn't make one thing out of another. Was this about his divorce? Or me?
I couldn't get anything straight. It was like a game of telephone, and I couldn't tell what the original phrase was at all. I wanted to ask him about it, but the urgency in his voice made me feel uneasy. Screw feelings. I was going to ask him.
"Percy?" I asked, my voice quavering.
"Yeah?" He said, tracing small little circles on my hand.
"I heard you behind the gas station. What was that?" I asked.
"Wait. We have 20 minutes until we reach our next landmark." He countered.
I just nodded. Soon enough, after worrying for 20 minutes, we were on top of the mountains, the stars twinkling above us. It was a clear night, and we could see tons of constellations. My favorite was the Huntress, it was strength and power into one, bright team of stars that shined and glittered.
"Well?" I prompted.
"I just missed my final divorce hearing. That was my lawyer." He said with a sigh.
I just kept looking up.
"Annie," he started, with his happiness returning.
I smiled again.
"Yeah?"
"Why would you ever agree to marry Luke if you would never go through with this?"
I flinched. "My family was...very...fond of Luke, and there would be consequences, let's say."
Percy tightened his grip on my hand. "I swear-"
"Don't. " I reassured him. "Soon enough, we're going to be in New York, and we can just get away."
"As long as we're together." Percy promised.
"As long as we're together." I repeated.
