Percy pulled me by the hand out to the parking lot.
"You don't have a car, do you?"
"Um, no. I ran here."
Percy made a puzzled face then shrugged.
"Here's my car."
We stopped in front of an old pick-up truck. It was red and chipped. You could tell it was old. Very old.
"Where are we going?"
Percy grinned like an idiot.
"New York City."
"But we're in Los Angeles!!! Can your car make it?"
Percy nodded. "Easily."
I though about the pros and cons. Pro, this is exactly what I needed. Cons, I might die. I looked over at Percy. There was something special about him. I couldn't tell what, but it was something that made me...happier, almost. It lighted a passion, a spark, inside of me. Problem was, I had no idea what is was. But I knew he wouldn't hurt a fly.
I grinned.
"Ok."
"Ok."
I hopped in his car, him following suit.
"I'll make you a deal " he promoted.
"And what might that be?" I questioned.
"Instead of spilling our secrets in this tiny little car, we say a medium sized secretat every landmark we pass and stop at. Instead of a big one. Small talk in the car, etc. Then, when we reach New York, we spill the beans. On everything."
I though about this for a moment. I really hated sharing stuff. The wrong information could fall into the wrong hands, and I couldn't deal with that. But there was something about Percy that made me trust him.
"Deal." He clamped my hand.
"Deal."
And that is how Percy and I, began our cross country adventure, not acknowledging any problems, no worries, not a care in the world. How we began the best time of our life.
