We pulled into my old apartment building around 2:00 AM. Annabeth hadn't said anything yet, just soaking in the nightlife. She had been in awe about the buildings, and was too shocked to say anything.
"Annabeth?" I asked.
"Yeah?"
"This is my old apartment, from when I was seventeen. It never sold, so its mine." I said.
"Am, am I living with you?" She said.
"Well, I didn't drive you here just to ditch you." I joked. We put the key in, and the apartment was clean and tidy, thanks to the realtor. We stepped in, and it was a bright, crisp white.
"I love it! It has the perfect view!" Annabeth cried.
I chuckled in response.
"Do you remember our promise?" Annabeth said. I nodded.
"Spill the big secret." She demanded.
"Rachel...she was pregnant. With Octivans baby." I confessed. She hugged me, and said into my shirt,
"I really loved Luke all this time. But I'm broken. I've put people in the hospital. I've had numerous enemies. Because of Helen. She locked me in this closet for ten days, no food nor water. Luke, he was like my savior."
"It's okay. I don't care what you've done, as long as you're here with me now, and forever."
Sounds like a happy ending, right?
They don't exist.
Luke burst into our tiny apartment.
"Annabeth, where have you been?" He demanded, raising his hand.
"Luke? How did you get here?" She said, her tone quiet, but yet strong.
"Tracker phone, idiot. Think for once. Now, where have you been?" He repeated.
"Luke, I can't tell you."
He slapped her, hard across the face. She whimpered.
"Stop!" I yelled. I had come to my senses this time.
"And who are you? The guy she cheated on my with?"
"She never cheated!" I yelled.
He slapped her again. "Yes she did." He growled.
"Luke!" She exclaimed.
He shot her a glare; and she ran into the bedroom, trying to run to the phone.
"Stay here." He pulled out a gun.
"Nobody moves." He snapped.
"Luke, I-"
"Shut it, you stupid blonde. You, tell me where you've been!" He said, jabbing the gun to my chest.
"Road trip." I said.
"Why did she run? She tell you the secret?" He demanded. My mind had a flashback.
He took it out on me physically and verbally.
"Yes. The fact that you're a low life who beats her senseless? Yeah, she did."
He grit his teeth. "Don't call me that." He demanded.
"What? Your true name? You hate being called that because it's the truth, and you know it!"
I had no fear now.
"You're just a loser who beats his ex-girlfriend, so he can feel in control."
"That's not true." He yelled.
"You beat her because you want power. And fear. When you can't get it, you lash out." He squeezed his eyes shut.
"Not true!" Annabeth was able to slowly crawl to the phone.
"What? Does it hurt? Being the one in fear?!"
"IM IN CONTROL!" He yelled, and pulled the trigger. He missed, by a long shot.
Annabeth was whispering into the phone. She held up one finger.
"Sure." I said mockingly.
The police by then, had come in and arrested Luke. They hauled him away, and our interviews were short ones.
I hugged her close.
"I still love you." I whispered, and she kissed me.TIME LASPE
Nine years later, and I still meant it. Every year, on our anniversary, Annabeth and I travel back to that same bar. We drive back, reliving old memories, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
