" what are we doing exactly?" I said as I finally caught up to her.
"We are training you. You know, to stop Romes from making everyone the same." She said like it was no big deal.
" why don't you do it yourself?" I replied.
She stopped and stared at me. She blinked and then she said " because you are the chosen one Halyn"
She continued walking
" I understand that. But what I don't understand is why can't you just take out Romes, and if he's so bad, how come you guys had a meeting with him in that secret room?" I questioned.
She stopped again. " Halyn, you're not even supposed to know about that yet. There are just some things that you don't understand. There are things that you can't know yet"
"That's the thing. I don't like not knowing stuff. I don't like being oblivious or clueless as to what's going on. I want to be completely aware of everything. I mean don't you think I deserve to know? Especially since I'm the 'chosen one'"I did air quotes with my hands.
"There are just some things that-"
"I can't know yet. I know, I know," I said Interrupting her. " but I think that's unfair. Especially if you just want me to fight for you and your little group."
"You really think I'm doing this for me Halyn?! You think I'm that selfish! You think I'm so selfish that I would put my own daughters life on the line just for me. This is for the good of the world" she was furious
"Why does it matter if everyone's the same? It's not like they can tell a difference anyways."
"Because Halyn! It's just- it's better this way ok?! Don't you want a better future for all of the other kids, that are like you. Or families like yours."
"Ohhhh you mean the ones that you plan on killing!"
"Halyn! It's for their own good! People just don't go missing over there!"
"People just don't get murdered either!" I yelled back at her. We've both stopped now. We are standing in a hallway , it has a door at the end of it.
" Halyn. You don't understand!" She yelled back.
" Then make me understand!!!"
" I can't Halyn. There. Try to understand that" her voice now sounds quite and soft and gentle, but not in a good way. You can still hear the anger in the way she says her words and see the anger in the way she curves her lips.
" Okay sure. I will just understand that. I won't ask anymore questions. I'll just do as I'm told and just trust you and all the other strangers I met." I matched her tone.
"Fantastic. Thank you."
"That was sarcasm!" I yelled " you know , when I first got here, when I first looked at you I thought that I would finally have someone who would understand me. I thought for once, for the first time in my life I would finally have someone to talk to, but obviously I was wrong Matilda. I should've never taken interest in all of those pieces that led me here. I wish I wasn't here. I wish I was back home, with my family! Even if I was miserable there. I was better off there then I ever will be here!"
"They are not your family Halyn! Samantha isn't your mom, Bruce isn't your dad, Nicholas, Ashley and Avery are not your siblings"
" They may not be my biological family. Samantha isn't my mother, but she is my mom. Bruce isn't my father, but he is my dad. Nicholas, and Ashley and Avery may not be my siblings by blood, but we are siblings by heart," I steadily walk closer and closer to Matilda's face. Talking with my hands a lot more than usual. " and that's what's important."
Matilda just stares at me. She has nothing to say. She opens her mouth to say something and pauses.
I turn and begin to walk away. I don't turn my body towards her as I say this " oh and by the way Matilda, Samantha is more of a mother to me than you ever will be, and don't even try to take her spot as my mom because let me tell you something," I turn my head over my shoulder " no one can take the place of your true family, and you Matilda, you are not a part of my true family."
I walk down the hall back to my room. I see Zeke and Joanne in the hall walking together. Neither one of them try to speak to me because of the previous events that happened with them. I stormed to my room and slammed the door. I ran and jumped onto the bed stomach first. I ugly cried into my pillow. I lifted up my head and said " worst birthday ever, i miss my family" I cried louder. I began to think about my family. The way they were and how much I missed them, and I wondered if they missed me too. "Whether they miss me or not I need to see them again. I just have to" I whispered allowed. "I have to go see them." I whispered again.
I gasped at the thought I had "I know exactly what I'm gonna do" I thought to myself. I smirked. I set an alarm for 4:00 in the morning. I laid down in the bed. I closed my eyes, I fell asleep.
When the alarm went off it felt like I had only slept for ten minutes. I got out of the bed anyways and I turned off the alarm. I knew that the others would still be asleep. I grabbed my old clothes. I looked around. Trying to remember where my bag and hat were. I remembered the moment where all the pieces to the map joined together. I knew the map wasn't in my room. I had a good feeling I knew where it was though. I walked out of my room and sneakily shut the door behind me.
I quietly tiptoed down the hall and into Matilda's office. I went behind her desk and opened one of the big drawers on the bottom. And I pulled out the map and the bag and hat. Even though the pieces were sticking out of the bag, the bag was still useable. I put my old clothes into the bag. I knew that if I wanted to sneak back into this world I would need the map to make the door appear. At least that's what I figured. I closed the drawer and pulled out the map. The door formed and I opened it up.
I stepped out of the door, I began to run. I ran out of the woods and up the hill.
When I got to the top of the hill I fell to the ground and smiled. I was so happy to be back on that hill that I never knew that the hill meant so much to me. I looked in the direction of my house. I stood and I began to walk toward my home.
" I'm finally home " I said as I stood at the door of my home.
