Thomas watched as Teresa slowly started to wake up. Tired and thoughtful she looked at him and saw how he looked at her and then she smiled. That smile, that could shine through everything she ever felt or experienced. "Good morning," Thomas whispered. "Good morning," Teresa whispered back and pulled her hand through her messy hair to make it even more unruly. "What time is it?" Thomas looked at the clock. It showed 9:30 am. "It's breakfast time." he answered.
Thomas walked down the stairs. He had convinced Teresa to let him make breakfast for her, because he wanted to and since he was too unsure of himself and his relationship with her. He was scared that if his housemates - Minho, Newt and Harriet - found out about them, they would tease him forever. And if not teasing him, they would never stop asking him about his feelings for her. And if things wasn't going to work out between him and Teresa, the teasing and the questions from his friends wouldn't help him get over her. Never.
He could feel the smell of coffee and burned toast from the kitchen and he could hear Newts upset voice yelling at Minho. When he walked in Newt stood on a chair with a coffee pot one of his hand and pointed at Minhos feet with the other, where a burned, smashed peanut butter and jelly sandwich lay. "You bloody slob!" Newt yelled. "Now the entire floor is sticky!" Thomas laughed. "Someone haven't got his coffee yet I see." Both Newt and Minho looked at him, Minho smirked but Newt rolled his eyes. "We had breakfast for over an hour ago but this one," he nodded at Minho, "This one thought that two toasts and three cups of coffee was not enough, so he went back to make some more and, as you can see, chose ruined our kitchen floor." "Calm down, Mr. Clean" Minho said. "It's not a big deal." Newt rolled his eyes once again. "What is a big deal though is that you were having a guest over last night!" Minho said and nodded at Thomas who got a lump in his throat. "What?" he whispered and swallowed. How can you know? They had been so quiet, only whispering to each other under the blanket. And Thomas had closed both his own door and the window so no one could hear them. Obviously he was wrong.
"Was it a sexual guest? Was it a girl?" Minho asked. Thomas started to walk against the pantry to take out the toast package and avoid the conversation, but Minho followed him. "I don't know what you're talking about." Thomas whispered. "Oh my god you slept with a girl!" Newt yelled. Thomas blushed. "Hey, Harriet, I owe you five dollars! Tommy slept with a girl!" "You know I thought I heard your window open at midnight." Harriet said as she walked in to the kitchen. She wore a pair of heart shaped glasses on top of her hair who she newly had cut almost to her scalp. "That is the sound of true love. I bet you had the time of your life." She blinked at Thomas and licked her lips. Minho and Newt giggled. Thomas faked a smile in a try to hide the fact that he was panicking and took three layers of butter on the toasts. He also tried to hide the fact that he was hurt. Not by his friends but by himself. He got hurt by himself because of his fear of touch, because all he wanted to do was to feel Teresas soft skin against his. He got hurt by himself because of all of his lies that made him appear so much happier, romantic, sexy and funnier than he really was. But what he hurt himself the most with was all of the unspoken words he let eat himself away, bit by bit, day by day.
"But Tommy, who is the lucky girl? We wanna meet her!" Newt asked after a while. Thomas bit his lip, shook his head. "I am not gonna parade her around like some trophy. You know me, I am not that kind of guy." Minho raised his eyebrows. "Why not? What is wrong with her? She have a hunchback?" "She happens to be a very beautiful woman." Thomas said and took the coffee pot out of Newts hand. "So what is she like...really old?" Harriet said. "Or a psychopath?" Thomas rolled his eyes. "No, no and no. There is nothing wrong with her. Can you guys please let me eat my breakfast now?" he started to walk out of the kitchen. "We will meet her sooner or later, you know that! And we are looking forward to it!" Harriet yelled after him. Do you really? Thomas thought.
He walked up the stairs and in to his room where Teresa sat and read the newspaper. She looked up from it when Thomas put down the toasts and the coffee pot and smiled warmly. "What have I done to deserve this?" she whispered. "Enough." Thomas answered. "I heard people yelling downstairs, is everything okay?" Thomas smiled and nodded. "Everything is alright, they just had too much caffeine and I fell." Teresa laughed. "Okay, I understand."
He watched as Teresa smiled to herself right after she took a sip of her coffee. It seemed as though she had forgotten everything that went wrong in her life, like it was just her and her coffee against the world. Then her eyes met his, and he was sure that the world had righted everything that was wrong once again. "Why, do I have something on my face?" She blinked at him. Thomas gave her a smile and shook his head. "I just think I fell all over again." All over again, for you.
