Prologue

The rain and the sound of my feet hitting the pavement started moving in-sync with one another, creating a calming rhythm.

I got into my dorm building and walked to my door. Before I could open it, something caught my eye. A note.

My throat instantly became dry, making me unable to swallow. I could feel my heartbeat in my ears and my stomach form into a pit.

Maybe it's from Harry. My conscience tried to calm me, but it wasn't working. I bent down and picked up up. Instantly, I recognized the handwriting.
It was the handwriting that haunted me for months.

My dearest Sydney
The too familiar small white envelope read.

I was hesitant to open it, but I had to--no matter how nervous it made me.

I know it has been a long time since we've spoke,
The letter started.

but I wanted to tell you that I am back. I know you've missed me and I sure have missed you.
I'm sorry if you had gotten the wrong impression before..and I'm sorry that I had to go away for a while.
But I'm back my dear, and we can only move forward from here.
So I have decided to forgive you, forgive every harsh word you have said and start over--with you.
I love you Sydney.

I felt like I was going to throw up.
He was back. How did he find me?
I needed to call Harry. I need to tell him to come over, I needed someone to-

"I wanted to see your face when you read it." I froze at the sound of his voice. I felt a cold wave embalmed me as the small hairs rose on the back of my neck. I was paralysed to the spot, unable to make any movements; even to simply turn my head.
The air circulating in my lungs suddenly felt heavier, almost as if poison filled the air.

"It's been so long..." I felt his presence move closer, nearing me. "..I missed you."

A sudden rush of adrenalin washed over me.

I turned around and kneed him in the groin, causing him to stumble back. Taking this opportunity, I sprinted out the building to anywhere, looking for anyone. It was hard to make out things in the dark, but I didn't care. I just kept running.

I quickily looked back and saw no one behind me. Continuing to sprint, I pulled out my phone and dialed Harrys number.

"Hello?" Just has he answered, I heard something behind me; an engine. I turned around and saw lights that belonged to a truck--Drac's truck.

"H-Harry he's b-back!" My voice shaky because I was running.

"Syd, what are you talking about?! Where are you? Syd! Sydney!" He yelled into the phone.

The truck was nearing so I ran off the road, into the woods. My hands were swaying next to me, hoping to give me more speed.

I could hear Harry calling my name into my phone. "I'm running into the woods by the left side of campus!" I said before hanging up. I didn't want Drac to hear me.

Not being able to run anymore, I dropped down to the floor and hid in a bush, surrounding myself with leaves.

"Breathe, breathe" The voice in my head cooed. I was breathing heavy, and the corners of my vision were becoming blurred and darkened.

I tried everything in me to stay awake, and open my eyes. But I couldn't, I just couldn't.

It felt like my soul was drifted further and further from my body, as if it was being sucked out of me.

I lay there on the rough surface, unable to move. I'm scared.
The chill coming from the wet leaves, on top of the light rain falling on me, has seeped through the pores on my skin and is now at the surface of my bones--freezing themover. The goosebumps are prominent all over my body.

I can't tell if I'm shaking, I feel almost numb. The rough, twiggy ground suddenly looses shape and becomes just a flat surface.

The chill quickly spread to my entire body, clinging on to every bone on its way, chilling them. I felt empty inside.

The minute noises around me were becoming mute, and I heard a faint noise in the distance-sirens, followed by rustling and crunching of leaves.

Before everything went black, I heard nothing. I had nothing left in me to save.

My chest was strained, and it felt like it was giving up on me.

I was breathless.
