The rain smacked audibly on the rock and his pale skin, his dark, longish (well it was longer than most guys had it but not long, long) unkempt hair soaked and sticking to his face, and his dark blue sweatshirt soaked from the rain and sticking lightly to the rock he laid on. The boy rolled over to his side and stared at the grass as the rain splashed hard onto it. Next to his almost sleeping figure sat in bright red writing the words "Matthew Day" scribbled in messy handwriting on the rock, his rock. This was his spot, his safe spot, he always came here after a bad day, which let's face it was almost all days, saying "he wasn't popular" was the understatement of the century. Matt was possibly the least cool person at school, at least in his eyes he was, mostly in part due to his fondness for school in general, obviously not the social part, but learning, he loved it, he had high hopes for college and with his grades they would most likely be achieved, knowledge was like candy to him, he adored getting it, he would always be listening intently to what every teacher said.

And this is why ninety percent of his school despised him, while he listened people would gossip to their friends, matt tried to ignore it, but it wasn't easily, he had a feeling they wanted him to hear them talk about him, insult him, mock him. Matt closed his eyes trying to shake away the feelings creeping up on him, this was his spot, his safe spot, no bad feelings could touch him here.

His almost crying was interrupted by a large thud matt shot up, thud thud there it was again. He slid himself carefully of his elevated rock, and slowly made his way toward where he believed he heard the sound thud thud thud it was louder now, he started walking quickly to where it was, why was he going to a random sound in the forest he thought to himself, it's probably just a- THUD it sounded like a rock smashing another rock, matt sprinted, he had no idea why, why was he doing this,

He came across a cave, a the entire front of it was carved out into a tunnel, stalactites and stalagmites where jutting out all around it, like sharp teeth guarding the cave. He took a step closer, what was that he thought to himself, and the earlier mentioned sound, he rested his arm against the cool hard rock, the uncarved jabbed into his hand at odd places, he ignored it and stared deeply into the dark cave trying to catch a glimpse of anything inside. Suddenly he spotted it

A pair of shining glimmering eyes, hiding behind a stalactites, bright shining blue, illuminating the cave, he gasped inaudibly at the sight, what is that! He took a few steps into the cave trying to get a closer look, the eyes widened a little before disappearing completely. The young teenager broke into a sprint, almost tripping over a few jagged rocks in the floor, after the pair of eyes. Again he asked himself mentally what the hell are you doing it could have been a bat or a small bear, why was he chasing after them, but just as he chased the sound he couldn't bring himself to stop, as he went deeper and deeper inside the tunnel he was amazed actually went this far, the black abyss started to get lighter.

Colorful crystals stuck out of the walls, illuminating a mystic glow onto the dark, moss covered walls, pink, blues, greens, red and various other beautiful colors shone over the walls mixing and reflecting. Matt stopped himself to stare at the shining lights around him, he began to walk slower, his rush of adrenaline was now gone, and the fear set in, he knew he had come down different tunnels, it was not a straight path, he was lost, he was lost, a mile underground, in a weird crystal cave. This was not good. "Think, think, think ,think," he spoke aloud to himself, as a small echo filled his panicked repeating words, he really was trying to think, he could go backward, but what if he got more lost, he could continue but what if this path lead to a dead end, or an underground river. He might have been panicking.

He was panicking, he paced back and forth creating loud clicks from his off-brand sneakers as he walked, cursing slightly under his breath at his current situation. This could not be happening, not now, not now, he had college applications sent and ready to be accepted, his future was going places and the last thing he needed right now was to die alone in a weird glowy cave.

He made his decision, backwards he went, he walked quickly but slow enough to make sure he was going the correct way, eventually the lights dimmed back to black and he was stuck walking a dark empty cave. Luckily with what felt like an hour with his mini-panic attack swirling in his head he found his way out of the cave, and ran back to his rock. His rock it always could calm him down after panic attacks like this. But somehow it didn't, it couldn't, he had just on impulse ran after a crazy sound into an underground cave, he never acted on impulse. He was so confused at his own behavior, but he couldn't dwell on it now, he picked up his blue backpack, which matched his hoodie quite well and made his way out of the small forest area and went home.
