It was the first day back to school since spring break had ended. I wish I could say that I spent that time partying with friends and sipping cool drinks by the poolside. However, that wasn’t the case. My best, and only friend, Beth decided to spend her vacation at Malibu Bay, California while I was stuck in the Seattle snow. I hate her for that.
Instead, I had my nose dipped into several Jodi Picoult books. Yes, for two potentially fun filled weeks, I relaxed and enjoyed the icicles crackling outside my window.
My name is Ana, by the way. I am a Junior at Richmond Fields high school. I don’t play sports. I’m not part of any club. Nor am I on the honors/principles list. I am just your ordinary 17 year old.
Mom always says that with the direction my life is headed, I’ll work at a Target all my life and have some..SOME college credits.
Haha.
I laugh because it’s probably true!
I personally like to think of myself as one living in the “spectacular now”. I don’t have a boyfriend, I haven’t begun my first real job (aside from working at my mom’s office) and I don’t have a car. But I am happy.
And that’s enough for me.

“Ana, let’s go! You’re going to be late for class! Mom shouted from downstairs, interrupting my thoughts.
“Coming!”
I stood in front of my bedroom mirror patting down the loose strands of my messy brown hair.
It’s 6:27 and I’ve slept in, which isn’t an abnormal habit of mine.
I applied a coat of black mascara to my top eyelashes and brushed pink shine on my pale lips.
“It’s cold outside and no one will care what I look like”
I reached down, grabbed my bag and threw it over my back.
“Ma, I’m going to be late!”
I could hear her sign.
“Well, run then ANA, Jesus. I’m not doing this crap this whole semester again”
I roll my eyes.

“Sweetie, are you wanting me to pick you up after school or do you want to walk home with Beth?”
“I think me and Beth will just walk, the snow is melting anyways.”
I don’t get it. It’s almost April and there is still snow on the ground. Sup’ with that Mother Nature?
I lean in to give mom a kiss and waltz my way to the school doors.
Miss Edwin is at the front gates, she looks extra spritely today.
“Ana, dear!”
I smile.
“How was your break?”
“It went well, I just stayed in.”
“That sounds relaxing. Go on now, I’ll see you 3rd period.”
She ushers me through the gates and I feel her arm slightly push the small of my back forward.
Uuuuughhhh. I hate when people touch me.
~
Seriously, where the hell is she!? Beth is never late to class.
I’ve been sitting on this frosty brick wall for twenty minutes now.
