Elise's Story Chapter One
Elise stared into the hotel foyer, the glint of diamonds, platinum and designer labels that seemed to shine from every direction made her feel small and insignificant. The smoked glass door reflected the street behind her and safety, but she had wanted this for so long she would not run. She caught her own face staring back at her, mocking her hesitation. At five foot four, with long black hair and baby brown eyes, many people thought she was vulnerable, even weak. They soon realized their mistake if they dared to cross her. Wearing five inch heels, she straightened her back and raised her head. She took in a deep breath to hide the slight tremor that ran down her spine and into her stomach. Then tossing her hair, which gleamed as it fell over her elegant shoulders and down the fitted red dress, she walked into the hotel.
Taking small steps, her heels clacked across the marble floor as she searched for Joel her billionaire boss. He had told her to meet him in the bar, to the left of the reception. She glanced around. An elegant woman stared down at her from behind the reception desk, considering her insignificant she turned back to her work. Elise would have been confident if this was a business meeting, but tonight she felt like a thirteen year old on her first date. She cursed her nerves and stepped towards the bar.
Twin, smoked, glass doors slid silently aside and she walked in. Her heels sank into the thick burgundy carpet. The room seemed to pulse with conversation. It smelt of lilies and red wine and to one side diners were enjoying a meal, she caught the scent of a rich sauce that made her stomach groan. She knew it was nerves rather than hunger and she scanned the crowd. A slick modern bar, with a black marble top was set across the back of the room. In front of it a number of burgundy stools were occupied and she could see the reflection of the drinkers in the glass wall behind the bar. To one side she saw Joel and her stomach clenched whilst her breath seemed to stick in her throat. She cursed herself and swallowed, he may be the best looking man in the hotel but he would not see how much he affected her. Wearing a deep cerise shirt and faded jeans he looked magnificent and yet so at ease, not like the stuffy, suited men that flanked him. Elise found herself comparing them. They were weaker copies like a print when the ink was running low.
Joel spotted her walking towards him and a smile transformed his often serious face. He had movie star looks, with thick black hair, a protruding brow and green eyes that seemed to glow in the right light. He eased his six foot two frame from the bar stool and stepped towards her a hand held out for her to shake.
Elise took his hand and felt a current run from his fingers and into her heart. His grip was firm but not crushing and she managed to control her own excitement and kept her face neutral.
“You look fantastic,” he said winking at her, as he guided her to the bar.
Elise’s heart did summersaults, she managed to let go of his hand and followed him over to the bar. Stop this, damn it. It’s just a date. Yes, it was just a date, but it was the date she had wanted for so long. Joel Sakharov had been her boss for a year and from the moment she had laid eyes on him, she had known he was the one for her. It had been both a wonderful time, as she loved her job. She was a CAD engineer and worked on designs for the companies Dubai division. She had been instrumental in designing everything from agricultural parts to structural design for new buildings. It had also been a stressful year, she had moved to a new town leaving behind all her friends and family and she had found herself infatuated with her boss. It had always been a rule of hers that you never mixed work and pleasure, but she was finding it very difficult to work with this man who made her feel so great. She had kept her distance, building up her reputation as a reliable designer who could produce amazing work. But Joel had taken a personal interest in her and had asked her out that first week. She had let him know that she did not date colleagues, and he had smiled down at her and said, “That’s okay, I’m not a co-worker I’m your boss.”
Elise shook herself out of the memories and wondered for the hundredth time if she was doing the right thing. Joel was staring at her and she felt a flush of heat hit her cheeks. “I’m sorry, did you say something,” she almost stuttered.
His eyebrows rose with amusement over light green eyes that stared right through to her soul. “I asked if you would like a drink here, or should we have champagne in the room?”
Elise gulped, her throat suddenly too dry to answer. He took her lack of response as a yes, and with a nod at the barman; he took her hand and led her from the room.
Elise wanted to shout at him to stop, but part of her knew that a date with Joel Sakharov was really an invitation to have sex. Had she been naive enough to expect that this would have been drinks and a movie?
Somehow they had arrived at his room and he slipped the key card into the smooth oak door. Joel pushed the door open and with a flourish held it for her to enter. Elise hesitated, a chill ran down her spine and she wanted to turn and run from there as fast as she could. With a cheeky grin and a raised eyebrow Joel stepped into the room and held out his hand. Electricity seemed to pulse from it and as Elise took the hand she found herself shaking.
“You don’t have to do this,” Joel said. “Please don’t think this will affect your job.” He paused to let the words sink in while his eyes wandered hungrily over her body. “I want you, I’ve made no secret of that, but only if it is mutual.”
The words sliced through her nerves, did she want this? The man was attractive. In fact -- she had thought of nothing else since she had met him. She had found it hard working so close with him, and believed that if she finally dated him -- that it would be easier. But did she want to sleep with him?
She looked up into his intense eyes, his full moist lips and his square jaw and knew that she did. She took his hand allowing the shock of contact to flow up her arm as she stepped into the room and kicked the door shut behind her.
I hope you enjoyed this. The next chapter will be released on Friday. If you want to read the whole book (much hotter version) NOW it is on Amazon for just 0.99C http://bit.ly/1nmWeii
