The truth hurts way more than the lie

Kenna should have guessed that, the one time she has the courage to spill out her heart, Dumbledore isn't there.

Pitifully, Teddy smiled at his best friend as a discontent expression washed over her face.

"We can come back tomorrow, Ken," her best friend suggested but the adrenaline racing through her body was too prominent to stop now.

Determinedly, Kenna shook her head and started pulling her friend down the hallway. "Caleb is in today. We have a session soon so I'll just tell him."

Teddy began to disagree - they didn't know Caleb well enough, he claimed - however, Kenna knew she could trust Caleb.

She put her trust in him every time they met. In truth, she might just trust him more than anyone.

Teddy's rambling finally came to a close when Kenna rattled on the large oak door, not waiting for an answer before she burst in.

As expected, Caleb was already in the room, casually lounging on the sofa while reading a book.

The man didn't look surprised as Kenna and Teddy barged into the room. Instead, he raised an eyebrow and greeted, "Kenna," without removing his eyes from the book.

Cautiously, she walked closer towards the sofa. "Caleb," she greeted in return and the way her voice wavered must have been some indication to the seriousness of her visit as Caleb lowered the book completely and stood up.

His cool eyes were trained on Kenna, completely ignoring Teddy's presence. "Has something happened to you?"

The tinge of worry in his voice almost shocked Kenna. Caleb wasn't one to show any displays of... affection?

However, she didn't linger on the thought long and squared her shoulders to show some confidence.

"Nothing has happened to me," Kenna started but her confidence immediately faltered when she realised how wrong the statement was.

So, she started again. "I mean something sort of has happened. It's hard to explain, really. Actually, it's easy to explain but-"

Frustrated, Kenna cut herself off and started scratching rapidly at her palm. Anxiety had began creeping up her throat when a soft hand twisted with hers.

Teddy.

"People are forgetting her," he explained, plainly. "She hasn't told me much but I kind of worked it out."

Gratefully, Kenna squeezed her best friends hand and sent a silent thank you to whatever God for sending her Teddy.

When a few seconds passed, Kenna finally found the courage to meet Caleb's gaze and when she did it was clear he had been silently asking for eye contact before he would start speaking again.

And the look in his eyes turned Kenna's stomach.

"Why do you look so worried?" She asked, trying to mask the own nerves in her voice.

Caleb shook his head and Kenna expected his cool and almost emotionless stance to return but when he lifted his head her tutor only looked more concerned.
