*Salmon's pov*
I've overstayed my welcome here at the library. One of the librarians and told me that I had to leave. I reluctantly got up and felt my way to the door. I got out and sat on the steps. I was still tired, so I leaned on the post and fell asleep.I felt a shake on my shoulder, stealing me from my slumber.
"Hey! Wake up!" A voice shouted.
I blinked, though it did nothing, and turned to the voice.
"Your that blind girl always hanging out with that Kat girl!"
Cat, he said it wrong. He said it with a K instead of a C, though I certainly wasn't going to correct him. I suddenly felt skin to skin contact to my face. I whimpered a little, and turned away. I didn't want to get into a fight!
He punched me again, this time harder in the shoulder."Your always with her! The only reason you haven't failed all your classes is because of her! I'm glad she's leaving! Then maybe you'll leave too! YOU CHEATER!" He yelled.
I winced as he punched and slapped me repeatedly, grabbing my hair and pushing me down the stairs. He kicked me in the gut, then laughed in my face. I heard him start to walk away. I wanted to reach out and trip him, but that would just cause more trouble for me. I layed there, bleeding from cuts, probably with a few broken bones, and many bruises.
I couldn't bring myself to get off the sidewalk. So I just layed there, crying silently, in immense pain. Soon, I cried myself back to sleep. I was awoken again, though this time in a kinder way."Hey! There you are Salmon!" Jay said happily. "You were unconscious when I found you. You were crying, all bloody and bruised. I think you may have some broken ribs but other than that, you'll be fine! I haven't taken you to a doctor yet but I figure you'll decide if you really need too." Jay said, walking around as he did so.
"Thank You for taking me in, again, Jay. I got in a fight with someone. Apparently the whole school knows about Cat leaving..."
I felt a cool surface touch my lips. A glass of water. I gladly accepted it from Jay and thanked him, before gulping it down. Crying had made me pretty thirsty."You should get some more rest, Salmon."
I nodded, thanking Jay again, before laying down on the couch and falling asleep again.
*three hours in sleepy land later*
I woke up and sensed Jay, laying on the floor and felt his head on the couch, asleep. I tried to get up, but the pain in my ribs was too much to move. I layed there, and my hand slowly found its way to playing with Jay's hair. Eventually, he woke up and saw I was awake as well.
"You know you could've woken me up..." he said groggily. I shook my head and laughed a little.
"No, no. You seemed so peaceful, very at ease. I couldn't have woken you up! You need rest. I could tell you had been up for a long while taking care of me." I felt Jay smile. With that pain in my ribs, and pretty much everywhere else, I didn't figure I'd be going back to school anytime soon. I hope that Cat is ok...
