"ryan, where's your share of the rent?" spencer asks, when ryan gets home from work one day.
"i'm getting it." ryan states.
"ryan, do you know what day it is?" spencer asks, putting his hand onto his hip, looking like a mom scolding her kid.
"uh, the 15th, right?" ryan asks.
"it's the 29th, ryan. rent is due tomorrow." spencer reminds him.
"i'll get the money." ryan opens their fridge, grabbing one of the beers they have.
spencer snatches the bottle from his hands. "how are you going to do that?"
"i'll find a way." ryan responds, attempting to reclaim the bottle.
"how, ryan." spencer repeats.
"can you spare me some money?" ryan asks, trying not to sound too desperate.
"i've spared you money the past 3 times." spencer near shouts now. "i don't have all the money in the world. you need to learn how to take responsibility for yourself. i'm not always going to be there for you."
"why don't you throw me out then? kick me to the curb, i dare you to." ryan responds, meeting spencer's vocal level.
"you know, i really should." spencer says. "but i won't. i know what it's like to be kicked out. i know you're scared and you're weak."
"i'm not." ryan fires back.
"then leave, i could find a replacement roommate easily." spencer says.
"maybe i will." ryan says, acting tough when he's about to cry at any moment.
"no you won't. not because i'm stopping you, but because you're stopping yourself. you couldn't make it on your own without me, ryan."
a few hot, angry tears start falling down ryan's face against his will. spencer grabs him and pulls him into a hug.
"you know i love you like a brother." spencer says. ryan just nods into his chest, letting his tears soak spencer's shirt.
