Chap 9

Jess was currently laying on the big bed on her side when a pair of arms were wrapped around her waist.

"How are you feeling?" Seth asked.

"Currently, really good. Thanks to you." Jess said the last part smiling and gave him a peck on his lips.

They parted and Seth looked into her eyes.

"We must continue the mission soon."

"And what will we do? What's the next step?"

"To go back to our home planet, we must get our ship. In order to do that, we must get to their base of operations."

"Seth that's suicide!"

"Your uncle said that too. But Sara looked into his head and saw that could help us."

"Who?"

"Her name is doctor Alex Friedman."

"Of course why didn't we think earlier of her."

Seth looked at me confused.

"You know her?" he asked.

I nodded.

"Yes, she got in my uncles cab the before we met you. She could help too. She knows much about aliens."

"Well if you trust her, then I will do too", Seth said.

I smiled.

"Let's get ready to leave."

He stood up and gave me time to dress into normal clothes. I put on a bigger grey sweater, black shorts and darker tights, before putting the necklace under the sweater. Jack was already outside waiting with Sara. A smile spread on the blond girl's face when she got a quick look at the mine and Seth's intertwined hands.

"You hungry Jess?"

I nodded eagerly.

Our little group went out of the hotel and to a small restaurant. It's name was Ray's.

"Fast food, uncle Jack?" I asked.

"Better than nothing", he shrugged, "and this man needs meat!"

He pointed to himself with his thumbs jokingly. I laughed.

"That's typical", I muttered.

We entered the small restaurant and were greeted by a blonde woman.

"Welcome to Ray's. My name is Tina and I'm gonna be your server. Wow, look at you."

Jack got nervous.

"Ah... what'd you mean look at them? They look like just regular innocent... uh, all American kids."

"Well aren't you a lovely couple. Are you?"

Tina looked at Seth's and my intertwined hands. We both had smiles on our faces and we both were literally glowing of happiness. Jack sighed relieved.

"You're really really cute. Take good care of each other, will you? And be a gentleman to her, young man."

Tina was very serious. She directed the last part to Seth. The other two had to chuckle at his intimidated expression. Just then a group a men came by.

"Evening, Tina!" one of them greeted.

"Sheriff Anthony! Your table's waitin' for you. I'm gonna send you a round of freedom pies, huh?" Tina responded.

"Sounds good. Thank you."

"Alright."

Tina then turned back around to our group of four.

"I'll bring yours too in a few minutes."

Tina went to get the group's menu. Just then Jack got a call. He answered it.

"Dominick, I told you..."

He suddenly stopped talking. I got worried and tensed. Seth seemed to notice and rubbed soothing circles over my hand with his thumb.

"Are they safe Jack?"

"Who's this?"

"My name is Henry Burke. I work within the Department of Defense. I handle their more sensitive cases."

"What do you mean sensitive?"

"I suspect we both know the answer to that question."

"Look, they're just kids. They don't want any trouble and neither do I."

"Good, then were all on the same page. Trouble is the last thing I want as well. But what I do want, and I'm counting on you to help me here... are your two passengers."

"What are you gonna do with them?"

"Do you care this much about everyone that gets into your cab? You're a convicted felon, Jack. Spent most of the day breaking one law after another, for what? For them?"

"What do you want me to do?"

"Don't make a scene. You walked them into Ray's... you can walk them out. I'll take it from there. And to show you my appreciation for your trouble, I'll wipe your slate clean."

"Just walk away, huh? No harm, no foul?"

"That's right, just walk away. You've got five minutes Jack, then it's all over."

"See ya then."

Jack ended the call. Jess was really nervous now. She heard every single word, not knowing how that was possible.

"Jack?" she whined.

"He won't", Sara suddenly said, "He won't."
