My name is Philae, and I was sent on an extremely long voyage with my mom, Rosetta.
A voyage longer than the likes of which have been accomplished by any human. That is because we are robots constructed by humans to travel millions of miles for ten years and land on a comet.
My mom , Rosetta, lowered me onto the comet and started orbiting it. And all the while, she was supervising and telling me what to do and sending the results of my analysis to earth.
We had to go to a comet, Wirtanen(46P), but there was so much delay in the preparation for our takeoff that Wirtanen traveled away so far we couldn't reach it!
So what if one comet got away?Humans are stubborn, so they changed our destination in the blink of an eye. Now we had to travel to Churyumov-Gerasimenko(67P)!
[These two names (Churyumov-Gerasimenko) are the names of two astronomers who discovered this comet in 1969, According to customs of Astronomy, this comet was named after these two people].
I was comfortably lying in my mother's arms; but, oh lord! The speed of that comet when traveling away from the sun was 16,781 mph in the least; and when it was coming towards the sun, it was travelling at 78,309 mph. When we reached it, it was traveling towards the sun and it's speed was increasing every second.
Mom had to hold me and travel even faster than the comet in order to catch up with it. She was panting with exhaustion, while I rested comfortably in her arms. So that's what a mom's love is like! She'd bear pain and exhaustion just to make sure her child is at ease.
Should the comet fly by the earth while we aren't able to chase after it straight; since we can't compete with the gravity of the sun and other planets, we have to start orbiting the sun along with the other planets, and use their gravity to swing around the sun and slowly travel away from the sun and travel farther away. Keep heading away from the sun.
