"Hey Paul give me another one, yeah?" I asked my cousin Carla's husband, waving my shot glass to the bartender and owner of niplick's bar. I'm not joking that's the name of this bar and yeah its cause he likes to lick nipple's.
You'd think the name would scare customers away but it was the complete opposite. This place always got filled over the weekends and had its fair share of customers on weekdays. But it sometimes brought the freaks into this place once in awhile, the stories I could share.
"What's wrong?" He came over with the vodka bottle and poured me another shot.
"I made the mistake of falling in love Paul." I tipped my shot and swallowed it in one go. The burning sensation from the liquor going down my throat no longer bothered me as I became numb with each shot I took.
"Falling in love is never a mistake."
"Oh yeah? What if she's straight and on the verge of getting married?" I took the bottle from Paul and poured another shot for myself. " Six years of my life wasted but what was I expecting from a straight woman."
"Must've been tough little lady but you're young, how old are you again? Aren't you twenty-one?" Paul asked, wiping a glass cup with a rag.
"I'm twenty-three." I slurred and got up from my stool with the bottle in my hand. "She's such a manipulative b-tch and I'm going to go tell her that right now."
"Babe, she already told you she's getting married, why give her the satisfaction of seeing you like this because of her?" My one and only true friend appeared."Thanks for the call Paul." Julia smiled at her cousin in law.
"Take her home before she does something she'll regret later." He advised her while she pulled me along with her. We struggled out the door when the air hit my face, the liquors effect kicking in to high gear as we walked to her car.
"You always come to my rescue, why couldn't I have fallen in love with you instead?" I question with slurry words." You're so gorgeous and Stella is so lucky to have a wife like you, will I ever be able to love someone like that?" She shook her head while she put me in the back seat before getting in the drivers seat.
"She's really out of it huh?" Stella my cousin asked from the passenger seat next to her wife.
"Stella! When did you get back from New York?" I exclaimed in excitement, sitting up and hugging her from behind the car seat, holding the bottle of vodka that i refuse to leave behind in my hand tightly as I hugged her.
"Earlier, we were just heading home from our date when Paul called us, Eli don't do this okay? Don't waste more of your life because of her." Stella held onto my arms that were wrapped around the seat and her." Go to Spain and get your masters in civil engineering already. That woman made her choice it's time for you to have your own life, meet someone new and move on please." My cousin pleaded and I don't know how drunk I am but I swear I felt something wet on my arm.
"I leave the day after tomorrow." I blurted out drunkenly and leaned back in my seat. Starting to feel dizzy and nauseous when the car started moving. I closed my eyes and inhaled deeply."I just didn't wanna tell anyone yet expect Julia until after I spoke with Maria but that went to crap."
"Seriously? Why even bother talking to her first when you know she would talk you into staying for her own benefit? Like when she made you stop talking to my beautiful wife in high school?"
"I know and I'm still so sorry about that Julia, thank you for sticking it out with me even when I pushed you away." Sheepishly smiling at her through the mirror attached to the windshield before closing my eyes for a bit.
