"This is her?" A deep voice asks above my head. I try not and look up afraid of the face that will face me.
"I can't keep her alive. I have other kids, older than her." The familiar voice of the head of my house. "I'm a single mother. I can't do it. Please Keyon."
I'd never not had enough food in my house. There was always enough, but I never got enough. Mother gave my share to my older siblings saying they needed it to work in school.
"Fine. Just give me the money before peacekeepers are taking her to a community home." The deeper voice replies. I hear the clicking of coins and then one arm lay my back before pushing me in the door of the unfamiliar house.
"When are you picking me back up?" I ask my mother. My mother never let me stay at other people's houses, or even visit. She looks at me, but I can't place sadness in her eyes. She just shakes her head and walks away with her knitted coat.
"C'mon." The deep voice tells me. I freeze by the door. "Well are you coming?" I follow him through the dimly lit house.
The house was bigger than my own and seemed to have nicer furniture and structure.
"This is your room. Now tomorrow we will visit Valerie's and get you something to wear then you will start training the next day." My mom called him Keyon but I wasn't sure if that was his name or not. "Dinner in half an hour."
I nod and look in the room that Keyon had opened the door to. It was simple, but nicer than what I had at home. It was better than the room I shared with four of my eight siblings.
Why weren't they here?
And I wondered that my entire life.

Yes, guys this is a Hunger Games fan fiction and many other questions about it and how it relates to the original series will be answered soon.
I also know this chapter is short, but it's just the prologue.
Lastly, this is based off my other Hunger Games fan fiction, but names and different conflicts may or may not be switched so if you've read the other, this one is way better I promise cause the last one kinda is awful😂
And also I added this later on, at first I decided to make this the 71st hunger games then realized Johanna Mason was the victor of that, so I am changing it to the 72nd so if there is something confusing just comment and I'll fix it :)
Thanks for reading!
