Somehow . . . I was never able to see my elusive guest whom I have heard every year, but I was able to see TWO grand birds that I have only seen one other time in my life!
But then the question comes: Why in the world are they here? Is it just me, or are they lost . . . by several hundred miles! But then again . . . who cares! They are here and in my neighbor's yard!
And so maybe the story of birds doesn't always end in 'nothing'.
Because I've learned that 'nothing' really is a hard thing to define since for those who look, there usually is something.
A/N: So for those of you who only know Pileated Woodpeckers from the pic at the beginning of this chapter . . . well your missing out because they are HUGE as woodpeckers go! And by huge I mean just their body is about a foot and a half without that long tail. Really fascinating creatures that are usually low key . . . unless they get lost and end up in a neighbor's backyard. That's about the only time you'll see 'em. :D
