namjoon stares out the car window, at the looming doors of the high school. every part of him is screaming you don't belong here. but here he is, and his stomach turns in anxiety of what will happen.

"now is this the first time or the last time we do this?" he turns to see his mother, tight-lipped and expression unreadable as she looks directly ahead out the windshield.

"last..." namjoon sighs, fixing his eyes on his hands that are playing in his lap.

"well, get in there and use the time to your advantage!" mrs. kim says, but namjoon just shakes his head.

"mom, we're not supposed to study, we just have to sit there and do nothing."

his mother frowns, sniffing in disdain. "then you figure out a way to study."

"yeah!" namjoon's ten-year old sister pipes up annoyingly from the backseat. "study, oppa!" her voice is mocking and she speaks right into his ear, breath tickling the skin.

namjoon fights the urge to reach around and smack his sister, but he knows his mother would be furious. he knows all too well who the favourite child is.

"go, then!" his mother practically shooes him out of the car, and namjoon scrambles out just in time to watch as the vehicle speeds out of the parking lot. he turns to face the school and heaves a deep breath.
