"Ask where he is it's less weird if you do it"
Willow laid her towel out next to me on the edge of the dock, her side dipping into the water due to the poor excuse of a rubber float tied to it, replacing the dock leg and keeping it above water.
"No why is it less weird? No i can't do that" I looked at her on my right, leaning back against my arms and letting my feet dangle into the water.
"Because you guys are, like, friends it's not weird" Her laugh came out in a short chuckle as she tucked a piece of her straightened blond hair behind her ear, she specifically refused to get her hair wet since it took "three fucking hours," as she told me earlier so dramatically.
"No i don't wanna look like i'm waiting around for him, plus i don't want Marci to think anything of it she already doesn't like the idea." I rolled my eyes out of habit, twirling the elastic around my wrist in a circle to avoid looking at Willow.
She let out a sigh and dipped her legs in the water next to me, it wasn't nearly warm enough to be swimming today, yet that's exactly what we were all doing at Marci's Memorial Day party.
We could see the rest of our friends in the middle of the lake, where it looked like the back left corner of the paddle boat was still close to sinking, they couldn't find anything to plug the hole before setting off.
The slight breeze was tickling against the skin uncovered by the pieces of my swimsuit, Willow and I were seeing who could splash higher by the time the rest of our friends made it in from the frigid waters of the pond.
"Don't ask Marci then, she's not the only one allowed to talk to him you know"
"I know," I pulled my right foot out of the water and tucked in under me in a half cris-cross-apple-sauce position. "I just know that she told you she wouldn't support it if anything happened, like i'm not saying anything will because i don't know him all that well, i just don't wanna start something over nothing."
"Well you have his number don't you?" she laughed again, reaching down into the water with her hands to rinse the sand from them.
I shook my head and let out a weak 'yeah', causing a dainty slap on the arm from Willow, "Well, you text him then, you don't even have to tell her."
I took my other foot out of the water and stood up, feeling the dock shake in the process. I was careful up the steps to the yard, skipping over the one that's been replaced by a cylinder block. I had to search the picnic table to find my phone, surrounded by drunken relatives and singing uncles. It was just barley 6 pm, and most of the adults here were borderline trashed.

Yo where are you
I sent him a message and looked up to meet Hunters eyes, smiling to her as she passed and taking a seat on the wooden swing, where Willow soon came up to meet back with me.
"He says he's on his way but he's kinda far, so he probably won't be here for another hour or so"
"See it wasn't even that hard, and he responded right away which means he actually cares to answer you" She gave me a smirk before she threw her head back laughing, causing the swing to sway forwards and backwards at a lazy pace.
