Dan stormed out of the house after fight with his father. His father wanted to move out and the boy didn't take those news well. He didn't want to leave. However, they were living close to the wall, which meant that water benders were really close to them. Wall was only a few miles away from the house and since the sparks of war started appearing, Dan's father knew they have to get out before it's not too late. He wanted to keep his one and only son save, he made promise to son's mother, his wife. Dan for some reason didn't seem to appreacate that. The war was a horrible thing. At this point everyone knew, it will start sooner or later. Water and Fire nations didn't have the best relationship. They always argued about everything. Fire nation claimed that water benders live on their lands, they wanted them back but water benders didn't agree and didn't plan on giving their homes to the Fire nation on the other side of the wall. However, now the leaders changed and the Fire nation was planning an attack. The new king wanted not only the land, who, he assumed, belong to them, he also wanted to rule the world. He wanted to make the Fire nation the strongest of them all. Of course, the air, water and earth benders didn't think it was best. Everyone has to be equal but it seemed like the new king didn't care. He didn't seem to mind starting the war as well. He will do anything it takes to get what he wants.
"That's stupid," Dan kept telling to himself. He was heading towards the river, which was deep in the woods. He always went there when wanted to escape and hide from the world. "War won't start. That's just another stupid rumour, which was created by stupid people and spread around by stupid cowards,"
The boy sat down on the grass, crossing his long legs. Dan looked around, grabbed two dry leaves and laid them in front of him. He took a deep breath, focused and snapped his fingers. A second later the leaves started burning. That was one of the simple things he learned by himself.
Since fire was dangerous element, Dan wasn't allowed to practice it outside the school. But of course, when no one was watching, he liked to break the rules. He thought that the school was useless anyway. There they didn't teach you anything useful. No one talked about world problems, the upcoming war, which Dan believed won't start, fights between nations. In the schools, they worshiped fire because it was the best element. At least, that was what everyone said, who knew how to use it.
Suddenly Dan's ear reached sound of someone walking towards him. He put out the fire immedeatly and jumped on his feet, running towards the nearest tree and hiding behind it. If someone will see him, he will get in huge trouble. Teenagers weren't allowed to be outside after 12pm and right now it was later than that.
The boy stopped breathing, not wanting to make any noise. His brown eyes were tightly closed. He was listening to every sound. His heart racing like crazy in his chest, daring to stop beating. After a while Dan finally dared to open his eyes, who then curously ran around. Everything looked fine.
"Maybe I'm just imagining?" He asked himself. The boy had a weird habit, he talked with himself.
However, he wasn't imagining because when took a few steps, wanting to return to his previous spot, he found a boy sitting there already. He looked like he was the same age as he. Well, maybe year or two older. Dan couldn't see his face but even in the dark could see, that the boy had black hair and was tall because the long legs were spread in front of him. His skin was pale, way too pale.
"Who are you? What are you doing here?" Dan asked bravely. The boy turned around.
Dan was now able to see him face. The first thing he spotted was the bright blue eyes, which stared at him. Also, he noticed that the boy wore black jeans and dark blue hoodie. He definitely wasn't fire bender, he couldn't be. The boy didn't look like one. That mean the stranger in front of Dan was from the other side of the wall.
"I'm Phil," He introduced himself and even flashed a bright smile, showing off his white teeth.
"And what you are doing here?" Dan asked again. He was annoyed, he didn't like to repeat himself.
"I could ask you the same question, but if you are really that curious and want an answer then I'm here because I decided to take a walk and somehow ended up here," Phil answered. He looked comfortable like it wasn't strange at all to meet a boy in the woods, like they weren't breaking any rules.
"You know that you are on the other side of the wall right?"
"Yea, I am aware of that fact," Phil chuckled and then tore his eyes away from Dan. "Anyway, let's change this boring topic because it's turning into weird interview,"
"You shouldn't be here. I could report you and that would get you in the trouble. You are water bender after all," Dan said and crossed his arms over chest. His brown eyes still glued to the stranger.
"Is it that obvious that my element is water?" Phil asked quietly but before Dan could answer, he continued to speak. A cheeky smirk appearing on his face, "But I assume you wouldn't do that. You would get in the trouble too, wouldn't you?"
Dan sighed. One of his brown curls falling on his eyes. The water boy was right. He can't report him unless want to end up in trouble too.
"You already know my name, so it would be cool if you would tell me yours," Phil said after almost thirty minutes when Dan finally dared to sit down on the grass next to him.
"Dan," He replied and snapped his fingers, making the spark of fire to appear.
"That's cool but let me show something even better," The water boy said and looked into the water, focusing on it. Dan followed his eyes and started to stare into blue emptiness as well, waiting for something to happen.
After few minutes of being quiet and them both staring into the water, small drops of water started raising up and flying to towards two boys until they were completely surrounded by them. Dan looked around amused. He wanted to touch the small droplets so much but decided against it. Afraid that they will start falling down after one touch. Phil was right. That was way cooler than the few fire sparks he managed to make. Everything was perfect until Phil lost his focus and all the water ended up falling on them.
"Oh my god," Phil's blue eyes widened, "I'm still learning and am not that good yet. I didn't do this on purprose,"
Dan was ready to scowl him at first, because of the stranger he was now sitting in wet clothes, but once saw that two blue scared eyes stared at him, decided against it and even managed to curl his lips into a small smile while saying, "It's fine,"
