"Hoying! Grassi!" My eyes snapped awake as I looked up to see Officer Kirk standing above me. I was a bit groggy, so I sat up and scratched my head, examining my surroundings. I looked down, only to see Scott cuddled up next to me.

Oh, shoot. I had completely forgotten that I'd moved to his bed that previous night. "Inmate, if you aren't over to your bed in the count of three, I'll have no choice but to report this to the chief."

I sprang up and rushed over to my own bed before he started counting. While I acted like I didn't care, I really couldn't afford to get into anymore trouble. "That's what I thought. I swear, if I ever catch you and Scott doing anything like this again, you'll be in big trouble. Got it?"

"But we weren't even doing anything!"

"I don't care. And you will address me by 'Officer Kirk,' Grassi, or else." I was about to reply sassily, but I quickly clamped my mouth shut. Like I said, I couldn't risk getting sent to the chief. Officer Kirk smirked at me and walked out of our cell. I groaned in frustration and attempted to go back to sleep. After all, he didn't say it was time to wake up, and it was still a bit dark out.

The next time I woke up, it was a bit brighter out. As if on cue, an officer named Officer Faulkner came to wake us up. I always liked Officer Faulker more than the other officers, mainly because she didn't shout at us or verbally abuse us. She just treated us like normal people.

"Wake up, guys!" she exclaimed cheerfully, hitting her baton against the bars of the cell to make a loud noise. Scott shuffled in his bed, then opened his eyes. He noticed I moved, and he almost looked... hurt?

The expression disappeared after a few seconds, and Scott ruffled his hair and yawned. Scott was so adorable when he yawned; he looked just like a puppy.

"Hurry up, dorks, it's time for breakfast!" Officer Faulker teased, then walked away, laughing. I stood up, stretching my arms. Scott did the same, and together we walked to the cafeteria.

"How did you sleep?" I asked him as we entered the line for breakfast.

"Much better, since you were there," he replied. Even though he probably didn't mean it in a romantic way, I couldn't help turning beet red at his comment. "Although, I did want to know why you moved."

I bit my lip. "Well, Officer Kirk forced me to move."

Scott rolled his eyes. "Of course. Sorry, I thought you were like... weirded out by me or something."

"I mean, that too," I joked, but I could tell that Scott hadn't understood that I was messing with him. "That was a joke, by the way."

"Oh, right. Sorry," he laughed nervously.

We sat down at a table with Avi and Kevin, and began having some interesting conversations about Sphynx cats, Imogen Heap, and the Grammys, when an officer (who was kind of cute, I should add) came to our table.

"Mitch and Avi," he announced, gaining our attention, "it's your turn to do bathroom clean-up."

Avi raised his eyebrows, obviously confused. "That must be a mistake. I did it last week."

"It was originally Scott and Mitch, but another officer told me that I should switch you guys. I don't remember why it was exactly. I think he called it a punishment or something for disrespecting him."

"Are you kidding me? Ugh!" I grumbled. "Is that even allowed? Like, switching people from jobs out of spite?"

"He's a higher authority than me. I take orders from him, and he ordered me to tell you that you're responsible for cleaning the bathroom this week. You're expected to do it during your labor time."

"Alright, Mr..." Avi looked at the officer's name tag, "Lewis... can you tell Alex-"

"Officer Kirk."

"Fine, can you tell Officer Kirk that he's a slimy little weasel and I want him to commit suicide?"

"Woah, Avi, that's a little harsh," Scott interrupted. "Even for Alex."

"Watch your tongue, Kaplan," Officer Lewis said with a smirk, then winked at us. He walked out of the cafeteria.

"What's your problem with Alex, bro?" Kevin asked.

Avi gritted his teeth. "It's just that he gets away with everything! I don't understand." As he said that, the transition bell rang, and everyone filed out to do their jobs.

We all stood up from our table and went to throw our trash away.

"Hey, Mitch, I'm sorry Officer Kirk is doing this to you. I'll ask him about it later," Scott promised. I smiled weakly at him.

"Thanks, Scott," I said. I decided to listen in on Kevin and Avi's conversation before Avi and I left.

"It sucks that you have to clean that nasty bathroom again," Kevin remarked, laughing.

"Ugh, don't remind me. I'd much rather do laundry with you than have to clean the bathrooms," Avi replied. "But don't get me wrong, Mitch is pretty cool too." I smiled when I heard him say that.

We all entered the hallway and Kevin and Scott waved goodbye to us as we passed the laundry room. Then, it was just Avi and me.

"So why do you dislike Alex?" Avi asked me, even though he pretty much already knew the answer.

"He's just always around! Like, nobody asks him to be there, yet he feels entitled to constantly be in my business," I ranted.

Avi nodded. "Yeah, he's pretty annoying."

"No, he's super annoying. Just this morning, Scott and I were... sharing a bed, but it wasn't even like... anything weird. He just had a bad dream and I was consoling him. But yet, at like 5 in the morning, I wake up and he's telling me to move or else he'd tell the chief!"

Avi tilted his head. "Wait, he was gonna get you in trouble for cuddling?"

I blushed. "We weren't cuddling!"

"Yeah, whatever. Me and Kevin cuddle all the time and none of the guards say anything about it (a/n idk if this is actually allowed or not irl but for the sake of the story pretend it is lol). I'm pretty sure there's no rule against it," Avi explained.

I giggled. "What? You guys cuddle?" Now it was Avi's turn to blush.

"It's not weird," he shouted quickly.

"Mhm," I smirked. "Anyways, I sense that he likes Scott."

"You noticed, too?"

"Yeah, it's honestly so obvious. It's probably the only reason why he made us get in separate beds. And exchanged you for him on bathroom duty."

"And Scott's too naive to notice," Avi mumbled.

Don't worry, hopefully the next chapter will be more interesting; this is just a filler chapter! I just wanted to make a longer chapter because I haven't posted in like three months.

Anyways, hope you enjoy.

Wait, wait wait. Before I forget can we please tALK ABOUT HOW AVI IS FREAKING LEAVING?? I WAS NOT READY OMFG.
