Compared to Jasey, Luke was the happiest person alive. Jasey was downright miserable, while Luke was just slightly unhappy.
They both sat on the edge of cliff, Jasey sitting cross legged writing in her notebook and luke just staring out to sea. Apart from Luke's heavy breathing and the ocean crashing against the rocks it was silent. Not an uncomfortable silence but a peaceful one. They just sat there enjoying each other's company.
Luke looked over at Jasey, admiring her once again. He admired the way she would tuck her hair behind her ears even though it just fell back into her eyes again, the way she paused and chewed on the end of her pencil when she was thinking of something to write down and the way every now and again she would lick or tug at her chapped lips when she was concentrating.
Jasey eventually looked up, and turned to face luke.
"Luke, do you believe in love?" she said out of the blue
"Love? No, love is a load of bullshit. in the end we are all just humans - drunk on the idea that love, and only love could heal our brokenness" he replied. "It's so stupid" he added.
As luke spoke Jasey continued to write in her notebook.
"Do you think you'd ever have the guts to jump?" Luke asked Jasey looking down.
"No, if I did, I would've been dead a long time ago" she replied glumly.
"What about you luke, would you ever jump?" She asked him
"Well, I'm not afraid of heights." Is all he said.
-
"Are you still going to help me luke?" Jasey asked the boy sitting beside her
They had been sitting her 2 hours now.
"Yes Jasey" he replied giving her a smile and placing his hand on top of hers.
"I don't want you to see this cliff as something you can jump off to end everything anymore, I want you to think of it as just a cliff. A cliff hundreds of people walk by everyday. A cliff that people stand on to look out at the scenery. It's just a plain old cliff. Nothing more" he explained.
Luke really wanted to help this girl.
"Yeah" she breathed out, "it's just a cliff" she mumbled before taking his hand and squeezing it. She gave him a warm smile and he returned it.
"Thank you luke"
"No worries Jasey."
-
Another half an hour passed and they both got up, deciding it was getting late.
"I'll see you tomorrow Jacey" Luke said
"Yeah you would hope so" she replied chuckling darkly.
They each said their last goodbyes for the day and walked back home.
--
-the next day-
Once again they met on the cliff luke bringing the cigarettes to share and Jasey bringing her notebook as always.
They had been sitting for about 20 minutes when Luke asked her
"Wanna go on a walk or something?"
"Sure" she replied closing her notebook and standing up.
They walked for 30 minutes, looking in the store windows and just talking. Every now and again their hands would slightly brush against each others, causing Jasey to blush.
Jasey was very thankful for Luke. She was very thankful that such a wonderful and kind person was willing to help such a disaster like her. She had put a lot of trust in him, opening up to someone was a big deal for Jasey but she had faith that he could help her get better. Each day she was feeling more and more happy, waking up knowing she was going to spend most of the day with this boy. Jasey knew luke was sad, nothing serious at all. Just sad.
He was easily cheered up, but easily put down as well. She could feel his happiness, even though he almost never showed it. She had a lot of faith that Luke was going to help her. She really hoped she was going to end up okay.
Jasey was snapped out of her thoughts by a deep voice.
"Do you wanna go in here?" Luke asked Jasey pointing towards the book shop they were approaching.
Luke knew she liked this book shop, she had mentioned a couple of times that she liked visiting here. There was a lot of things luke knew about Jasey.
But not a lot of things Jasey knew about Luke. She really didn't know much at all.
