I walked home in the rain. I really needed it to clear my head. It turned out that it wasn't real blood on the necklace. Someone had dipped it in fake blood from the party shop. How do you know? you ask. I found an empty bottle next to the bin, oozing scarlet coloured liquid from the lid. In someway it didn't matter that it wasn't real. It still gave me the creeps.
Rain spattered on my hoodie, leaving dark patches. Covering the ground were massive amounts of brown autumn leaves, remnants of the season that had just passed.
Amelia was about 50 metres ahead of me. We didn't talk. I just watched as she disappeared into her house like a ghost. She was so strange. And I had the weird feeling that she had something against me. I'd never seen her in my life.
Mum and Dad weren't home. Only magazine remained on the table. Something to do with fitness. I don't know what it was or care what it was in the least. I went straight to the fridge and grabbed out the leftover rice and chicken from the other night.
Like magic the TV turned on. Then I realized that I had accidentally stepped on it on my way to the couch.
"Tomorrow will be a top of 11 and partly cloudy. That's your weather for tonight. I'll see you next time. Goodnight." The news theme song rang through the house. Wait, do you call it a theme song? I don't know, whatever.
My phone buzzed. I hoped it was Nova. He hadn't talked to me in two days, or texted me. Something was up and I could feel it. As it turned out, it was mum.
Be home soon honey. Your father and I are at the supermarket. xx - Mum
You better bring home hot chocolate and cookie dough cause I feel like baking and it's really cold. - Celeste
Ok honey. Pls unpack the dishwasher. - Mum
Well at least she didn't make me put a load of washing on or something. The laundry smelled weird and Dad's underwear were definitely biohazardous. I heaved up off of the couch and opened the dishwasher. Plates and cups steamed everywhere and I had to wait a second for the clouds to disapparate.
The click of the front door made me turn around. Camille strolled in looking very pleased with herself.
"What has got you so happy?" I asked.
"I think I just got a boyfriend."
"Camille, that's so good! Is he hot?"
"Yeah, you could call him that," she said. Her face was very smug and she was grinning like a lunatic.
"Camille I've never seen you quite this happy. He must be one hell of a guy."
All of the dishes were finally stacked and I could take a breather for a second. Camille looked at me. She was kind of studying me with her small green eyes, still smiling. She then slowly strolled away looking like she was on top of the world.
I heard a car pull up and the next thing I knew Mum and Dad walked in with all of the groceries.
"Dad I've been waiting for you. Ready for another X files night?"
Mum looked sternly at him. "Your father was supposed to be cooking dinner, but alright I guess."
"I'm sorry Mum. We'll watch Brooklyn Nine Nine on the weekend." I had so many Tv shows going on. I watched the X files with Dad, Brooklyn Nine Nine with Mum, Supernatural with Nova, Riverdale with Aria and Camille and I just watched movies together. We really didn't agree on the same genres so we alternated who picked which movie every time we watched one together.
Dad and I sat down while Mum made dinner. After an episode I got up to make everyone a hot chocolate.
"You know you'd never have gotten that hot chocolate if I wasn't your mother." Mum sipped her hot chocolate, smiling.
"I know mum. You guys are the best parents a girl could have. I know it sounds corny but I hope I never lose you. I don't know how Camille and I would cope."
"We aren't going to go anywhere."
