Chapter 1
"Schoolmate"
Words Counted: 1411

It was an awful sound. The alarm clock. She groped around it, still eyes closed up, and threw it against the concrete wall. It went silent for a while until it started ringing again. She let out a sigh and reached for the damn alarm clock which is still screeching on the floor. She hated the horrid thing but it was the only thing that could ever wake her up for school. No matter how much she threw it away, she still needed it and gladly, it didn't break or destroy.

She pushed the button and soon it stopped being nosy. With one last look at the damned clock, she let out another sigh as she did a mental check on what she should do and what she should not do today. It was already 4 minutes after 7 in the morning and she had classes to attend to at 8:30.

"Wait, today's—" she let out a groan and rolled over her bed once again with her feet stumping up and down the sheets. "Tuesday is the worst!"

She never did like Tuesdays and she could never get why Calculus got invented. The damn thing can't help me when I operate my patients. So what? I'm gonna measure and estimate how long my needle is gonna pierce through my patient's skin? Or find the parabola of the broken bones and/or limbs from the body? She really thinks Calculus and Maths are really pointless but what can she do but complain.

She stood up again and started walking to the bathroom. She looked at herself at the mirror as soon as she got inside. She scanned for unnecessary things on her face like pimples, acne, blackheads or whiteheads. Fortunately, nothing was found. She was still beautiful, but she doesn't like to admit it.

She knows she's not ugly but she isn't really confident saying she's pretty even with her name and all. She had no friends to compliment her and she grew up thinking she's just a normal girl. Nothing more, nothing less.

While showering, she kept thinking of what might happen today like passing of assignments and notes. Yesterday, she forgot to bring her assignment and almost ended up in detention. Good thing she got an admirer who's a nerd too and gave her a spare assignment. She was grateful and weirded out at the same time. Is this dude my stalker? How did he know I forgot my assignment? She kept thinking about her stalker and if they had another assignment due today but there was none so it would probably turn out as a nice day.

After showering, she looked back again at the mirror and stared at her face, it took a minute or two before leaving towards her bedroom to change clothes.

She looked at the clock on her nightstand. It was barely 8 yet so she still got time to pick the best uniform she's got, even when all of it were properly washed and neatly pressed.

After what took like 10 minutes of grooming, she head towards her kitchen, opened the fridge and took out a bottle of mayonnaise, a bottle of fresh milk and 1 apple. She also took 2 slices of bread and started making a sandwich, with only mayonnaise in it. She was never a great cook and she lived alone so she didn't bother having a buffet for only one person.

Unfortunately, her parents were long gone before she could even see them. Her mother died after giving birth to her. Her father, on the other hand, was nowhere to be found after her mother's death. She was told that her father had already passed away but she didn't really care much. She also heard that he remarried and probably had kids but no, she cared less.

She lived all her life with her grandmother who was a global company's chairwoman but due to diabetes, has passed away leaving her with tons of money and a lonely penthouse all by herself. She was still a minor and she couldn't yet inherit the company so her grandma's secretary took over her position while she studies business and also studying medicine at the same time. It was hard for her because she never really liked to be a business woman, she dreamt about being a doctor but she had no choice since her grandma left her with one last wish— to take care of her company.

Even with all the wealth she had, she's still pissed because it would mean to be mingling with other people like tutors, foreign investors who kept asking how is the last heiress of DHL (Dahlia) group of companies is doing after the loss of her grandmother, employees and etc. She is an introvert and anti-social. She doesn't like to socialize and connect with people. She likes her lonely and peaceful life than anything else.

She even likes eating this tasteless egg sandwich alone than be with someone else. It just annoys her. After eating breakfast, she brushed her teeth and went back again to her room. She did one last mental check before spraying herself with her vanilla laced perfume and left the penthouse.

An elevator was open and it seemed like no one was going in so she entered it and immediately pushed the button of the ground floor to avoid other people riding the elevator with her.

It took 24 floors before she could reach the ground floor. Lucky for her, no one seemed to be getting on her nerves. She was alone inside the elevator the whole time. It was a pretty good start of the day.

"Bella!" She looked back and saw Mrs. Shapiro, her grandma's personal maid for 20 years, holding a tray with eggs benedict and cocoa drink. She knew it was for her, obviously.

"Oh, hi mrs. Shapiro. I'm off to school now." she said with a smile.

"Have you eaten your breakfast? I made you omelet." mrs. Shapiro asked and she nodded. "Oh dear, I'm sorry I was late. Oh dear oh dear."

"Mrs. Shapiro, it's okay. You can make omelets for me tomorrow if you want. But for now, I really need to go to school." with one last smile, she walked out of the hotel's lobby and went directly outside without sparing another glance at mrs. Shapiro.

"Taxi!" she called out with a wave to one of the taxis passing by. It didn't take long for the taxi to pull over near here and she was glad to snatch one for herself. This street was a busy one and it's really hard to find an available taxi.

She was about to hold the handle bar of the door when someone else snatched it.

"Hey!" she yelled.

She looked at the snatcher and was kinda suprised how good looking the person was. It was a guy, a handsome one. She was 5'9 tall and this guy was probably 6'2 or 6'3. He was tall, too tall and he had pink lips, sharp gazing eyes, a high-bridged nose and a slight point chin.

"What?" As soon as he spoke, she knew that this brunette was arrogant, selfish and cold-hearted. And with the looks and all, he's probably the school's jock. She had a feeling that they were on the same age but maybe she's a bit older. "You know, miss. Staring is rude."

She snapped out of it. "What? I wasn't staring."

"Oh really? You did." he said with a smirk.

"Oh no, I didn't."

"Yes, you did."

"I can't call it staring because I was actually glaring at you to move your hand from this taxi and back away. I called first, got dibs. How bout you mister?" she said calmy but it's obvious from her voice that she wad irritated. She was the type of person to get irritated easily when someone gets too unfair.

"Excuse me, miss. I saw it first and waved at it first—"

"Oh for Pete's sake, you too get on and let me drive you both to Riverdale High." They both looked at the now frustrated driver and back to eachother and to their clothes, which are the school's uniform.

"We go to the same school?!"
