"CALEB!" Wow. This is the first time in like what... 2 months she has called me by my actual name. "Morning Ally," I chirped. "You ok? You look rather... off," she asked in concern. "Wow, the first time you've actually been concerned because of me!" I joked sarcastically. "You okay?" I asked. She nodded. "Really?" "Oh just shut up! You ought to stand where you stand, as a pipsqueak!" She burst out. "What?" "Leave me alone, please..." she walked away, leaving me in confusion.
What the heck just happened?

I spent my first three lessons puzzling over Alyssa's strange behaviour. I decided to brush it aside as one of her bad days. I bet she got off from the wrong side of the bed. As I stepped out of the classroom, I saw her laughing with a group of people. "Hi Ally! You wanna go for break with me?" I tapped her shoulder. "Erm... I think I'll go with them. Sorry Cal!" She waved and sashayed away with her group of new friends. "A—" I sighed and turned to the school playground. Hey, don't judge. I might be 16, but what's stopping me from going to the playground? I walked there quietly, to find it empty. Perfect. I went over to the swing, sitting down on it as it swayed in the wind. "Dad? Where are you when I need you?" I asked no one in particular, as I stared at the clouds. My father had died in a car accident. I had been the pillar of strength for my mum ever since then. But I needed a pillar of strength too...

Taking up the job as a secret agent gave my mum and I enough money for a gigantic house, which we had no need for, sufficient for our three meals and in between snacks. Not to brag, the pay was high. That was one reason I kept the job. The second was that I loved this job. Until now. The Mission had ruined my whole impression of the agency. I needed someone to talk to... that was all I asked for. Just that. And now Alyssa was gone. With the group of popular people. Being best friends with Alyssa sure was tough. "Dad..." I whispered. Then, for the first time in months, the most unexpected thing happened. A tear rolled down my cheek slowly, followed by me wiping it away. But it was replaced by a fresh one almost immediately. When I had finally stopped, it was 5 minutes before class started again. I wiped my eyes before heading to a class I had with Alyssa. "Hey Cal!" She grinned. "What?" I asked, in the same tune that the Queen of England would probably say "We are not amused." "Hey have you been crying?" Kayla shifted my face to face her. "No. Leave me alone," I told her. "Caleb... I'm sorry for what happened just now... Forgive me?" she apologised desperately. "HOW DO YOU EXPECT ME TO FORGIVE YOU? IT'S MY BIRTHDAY, AND YOU REFUSED TO EVEN SPEND 30 MINUTES OF YOUR LIFE WITH ME. JUST THAT SMALL POCKET OF TIME. IS THAT REALLY IMPOSSIBLE?" I shouted. "I am so sorry Caleb... I forg—" I cut her off. "I could tell that you forgot." I said quietly, before running to class. My best friend, the one I had spent most of my life with, forgot my birthday.
