First Day or Last Day

"MOM, WHERE DID I PUT MY BOOKBAG?" I yelled from upstairs, as I was running around brushing my teeth. It was the first day back at East high. I was of course running late; great way to start off the new school year.
"Honey, I don't know where you put it. But hurry up because you are going to be late." My mom yelled from downstairs.
My mom is the sweetest person. She would do anything for you, but for some reason she was not helping this morning.
"Yeah, yeah, yeah," I said to myself as I was looking around for my bag. Tearing my room apart I eventually found it, sitting next to my door. Wow I'm blind. I walked over to my stand up mirror in the corner and looked at myself one more time. Even though I had no one to impress I like looking good. I wore ripped up shorts and a new strappy tank top. At least I'm presentable, I thought, slipping on some sandals.
"Now Skylar, try to be more positive this school year," my mom rambled.
   "Yeah ok," I said sarcastically.
"Skylar," my mom gave me that look.
"Ok fine whatever you want," I trailed off as I was walking out the door.
"Your keys." Mom handed me my keys.
"Thanks," I smiled and ran out the door. I opened my car door got in and threw my bag in the passengers seat and started the engine. I lived 20 minutes away from school and it starts in 15 minutes. We had to make this work. I basically sped the whole way to school but I made great time. As I walked in, I looked for Aspen.
Aspen is my best friend. We have had each other's backs since the 3rd grade. I don't know what I would do without her.
"Hey little bitch," Aspen said to me as she walked up behind me.
  "What's up," I laughed.
"Skylar you can't be late all the time this year," she teased.
"Aspen I'm working on it ok." We both laughed and she walked with me to my locker. At my locker I threw all of my stuff in and slammed it shut. "So how do you think this year is going to go?" I asked her with a smirk.
"Oh you know, shitty. I mean like always."
"Oh you know it." I smiled. Don't get me wrong I like school but sometimes school can get too much. We all had to meet in the gym for the "big back to school assembly."
We were trying to walk to the gym when we get behind, I swear, the slowest walking people ever.
"Come on what are you waiting for? Christmas?" Aspen ranted. "Move your asses out of the way."
I started to laugh when one of the guys turned around. "Oh what's wrong? Is it that time of the month Aspen?" John snickered.
"Blow it out your ass John. There is no need to walk as slow as a fucking turtle."
Aspen is what gets me through the day. She is not afraid to be rude and tell anyone off.
So we finally made it to the gym and Dakota, Devin, Cassie, and Trish, where saving spots for us.
They are that group of friends that you keep in touch with during the summer, but you don't hang with them 24/7. You know what I'm saying? But they are a group of people that I'm super close with and can trust somewhat.
I sat next to Dakota and Aspen sat next to me.
"So how was your summer?" I asked Dakota.
"It was better than school, I guess."
"Was it really that bad," Aspen chimed in.
"Ya, but at least it was summer." She laughed. "What about you, Skylar?"
"It was pretty great. I mean besides all the sports stuff. Pretty much chilled at the lake."
"Skylar you do that every summer," Dakota said kind of rudely.
"True but at least it's fun."
  "True. Better than mine."
Ok so let's start with Dakota. Dakota Flemmings, has long blond hair, plays volleyball and softball, dates a lot of guys, and is the diva of the group. Super nice though.
Then you have Devin, Devin Wilson, she is honestly one of the nicest person ever, she has short ginger hair, and wears clothes that are vintage most of the time. She and I are volleyball buddies, but that's the only sport she plays. When Aspen can't hang I usually hang with her.
Last but not least, we have Cassie and Trish Pollrich, the twins. First off we kind of get along. They are those type of people that you get along with but you just can't trust them. You get what I'm saying?
Ok I'm done with that garbage but anyways let's fast forward to after the assembly and to the part that would change high school forever. I mean forever is a little much but let's just roll with it.
  So after the assembly...
"Do you want to do something after the early out tonight?" Aspen asked.
"Shit I can't. I have volleyball but is after ok? Sorry," I replied.
"It's fine. Pick me up around 6." Aspen shouted over the crowd as she was pushed away for her first hour class.
I waved and turned around. But instead of turning around and going to my locker, I turned around and ran right into this guy. Aidan Moore, a new student from the school across town.
"I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to," I panicked.
He chuckled, "don't worry about it." He walked away and I walked to my locker. As he walked away he kept looking back. And I kept looking to see if he was.
I know. I'm not big on relationships because it's just high school. But I don't know this is different. He had brown hair like mine but his eyes were blue and honestly dreamy. Cheesy I know right but ugh. He would never go for a person like me. I'm not a "popular girl" or whatever you call them. I had friends but I only had a few close friends. I'm just an ordinary student.
I looked at my schedule; first hour Spanish 3. I put the schedule back on the shelf and grabbed my binder, notebook, and pencil case. Of course I just had to be the last person into that class. But guess who was there; Aidan. But you know it. Every girl was surrounding him. He glanced at me and I walked over to the last empty desk by the window.
The bell rang and in walked the teacher. Probably getting her morning coffee or complaining to the other teachers about the imbeciles she has to teach this year. Come on every teacher does it. I slouched in my chair and looked out the window, wondering when summer was going to be back.
"Good morning class," the teacher ms. Amblur said to the class.
I just rolled my eyes.
"Who wants to even be here?" Liam, a kid that sits in front of me, said to his group of friends (the jocks). They all looked back at me.
I threw my arms up and said, "hey don't look at me I want to be here as much as you all do."
Ms. Amblur's head shot my way. "Ms. Braxton is there a problem. We can take this up with the principle if you want. It's the first day and you are already acting up."
What a bitch.
"Yeah whatever, way to jump me the first day," I sarcastically said. I didn't care at this point. Day one and they are already cranky. I can tell her and I won't get along great. But oh well.
Surprisingly she ignored it. She rolled her eyes. "Ok class we got a new student, Aiden Moore, he transferred from the school across town and hopefully he will help us win state for football this year.
Even the teachers were wrapped up in him. Wow. Plus they care about sports way more than they do about academics. "Shocker."
Aidan stood up at his desk and looked over at me smiled and said, "Ms. Amblur please don't give me this attention. Like I asked." And sat down.
Everyone laughed and I smiled. She was not happy. "Aiden and Skylar can I see you in the hallway? NOW," she snarked.
I stood up from my seat, and followed Aidan and her out into the hallway. As soon as we got out there she started in.
"Now you two. I don't want to have anymore trouble. You guys are the only ones acting up and if it doesn't stop I will send you both to the principles office," she said very loudly that the whole class could here because she left the door open.
"Ms. Amblur... I," Aidan started to say something and she went ballistic and cut him off.
"Now listen here you little puke. Don't give me sass or trouble and we'll be just fine. But get the fuck out of my sight. I want both of you to the principle's office now. Go grab your books and leave."
To be honest I will never know what happened that day in Spanish 3 or any other day in that class because I dropped it. Well I was made to.
But anyways we both walked in grabbed our books and walked to the office together.
"By the way if you don't know by now I'm Aidan," he said and smiled.
"Skylar's the name. And if you didn't pick up my last name it's Braxton." We laughed. We turned the hallway and we could see the principles office.
"So why did you act out like that?" I asked and smiled at him.
"Oh you know. It shows them who I really am and not your stereotypical jock, like everyone thinks I am. You?"
"I don't know something different this year. Her and I haven't gotten along since her daughter was viscous to me and I told her off."
He laughed, "I wouldn't have pictured you as a "bad bitch" but I guess," he joked.
"Dude I'm not a quote on quote bad bitch. I just don't deal with certain people and unfortunately her daughter is one of those people."
"Understandable," he smiled.
We made it to the principles office and sat in the chairs in front of his desk. The room smelled moldy or musty. Well that's what a school smells like when you come back. 20 minutes passed and it was awkward until Aiden tried to make small talk but failed. 10 minutes later the principle walked in and smiled.
"Skylar. Ms. Amblur again." He laughed.
"Ya I mean I tried but I said one word to someone and she jumped me."
"Skylar does that surprise you. I'll change your schedule and we'll be good." He said. "Wait who are you?" He asked Aidan.
"Sir I'm Aidan Moore the new student."
"Ahh I know who you are. Why are you here?"
"So at the beginning I told her to not make a big scene I was there. But she did and I said please don't and she got all mad and pulled us out to the hallway."
"Aidan, I'm going to tell you something. Don't give that old bag a minute of your day. This is her last year, she likes to punish people at least three times during the day." Mr. Adkins said honestly. "So here's what I'm going to do for you two. I'm going to change your first hour to gym and switch gym eighth hour out and put advanced chemistry. And Im not going to put anything on your record you were here."
We both smiled and I said, "thanks Adkins."
"Thank you sir," Aidan said nervously.
"Aidan cut the crap, call me Adkins." He laughed and motioned us out of his office.

Once we're out of his office Aidan asked, "since when are you best friends with an adult?"
"Boy don't act like you know me. Now I'm going to class but you have fun in the hallway." I smiled and left him.
This is normally not me but maybe changes could be made. I walked to gym and saw Aspen and ran up to her.
"What's up dawg," I nonchalantly said. There must've been a smile on my face and I didn't even notice, but she did.
