I looked over at him with a blank face and raised my eyebrows. "I'm not kidding. This place is hella creepy."
He just laughed and went to get a nurse.
"Ha ha ha," I mocked him.
The same redhead nurse walked through the shabby wooden door.
"Can I leave?" I asked solemnly.
"Yeah. But make sure you drink lots of water because this will happen again if you don't."
"Ok ok. Do I have to pay at the front desk or?"
"I think your mom took care of that. You are free to leave." She added.
I stood up and I was a little shaky, but I was fine.
"Alright let's blow this popsicle stand," I mentioned as I walked out the door, Aidan followed.
We get out to the car. "I'm sorry that you have to take me home."
  "It's fine. I don't mind."
"Ok that's what you say now until I don't know,"
I couldn't think what to say.
"Oh my gosh Skylar. You're fine. Don't worry about it," he smiled.
My car was still at the school, I realized. I'll just have mom drive me tomorrow. I also realized I was still wearing my nasty gym clothes. Ew.
But I don't know something has changed I don't care what I look like for Aidan. We have become so close, I don't care. Ugh. This is so difficult. I actually really like him, but he is probably so caught up in the other girls to care.
"Um... Skylar," Aidan said nudging my arm. "You ok."
"Oh yeah I was just looking at stuff out the window," I lied.
"Oh were you? Because I tried talking to you four or five times," he joked.
"You know what," I laughed. "Good."
  "Whatever," he laughed.
"So what do you know that you can't tell me?" I raised my eyebrows up and down and smiled.
"Skylar. I can't tell you. I don't want it to be like changing anything."
  I looked at him.
"I mean I don't want to change anything between Emmitt and I. We are actually good friends."
I could tell he caught himself before he said any more. But I smiled and playfully rolled my eyes.
"Skylar. I'm not up for the sass," he joked as he parked the car at the back gate of my house.
"Alright this is my stop. Thanks for the ride. I feel bad." I opened the door, got out, and walked up to the door of my house before turning around.  Aidan was still there. I waved and he waved back before he drove off.
Ugh that kid, I thought to myself as I walked in.
The house was quiet. No one was home. It was so peaceful. I immediately went upstairs and changed into a pair of athletic shorts and tank top.
The peace only lasted 10 minutes. I heard mom open the front door and walk in. "Hello," she yelled from the bottom of the stairs.
I heard her heals clonk in the hardwood stairs.
"Hi." I said back.
"How are you feeling?" She asked sympathetically.
"I'm fine," I looked at my phone.
"Ok as long as you are feeling well."
I looked at her and asked, "what's actually going on between you and dad?"
She got this really sad look on her face. "Well." Started to tear up. "I think we are getting a divorce. I'm so so sorry."
I was upset. Mom and dad have been married for 21 years. "What happened?" I wined.
"You know those "business trips" he's been going on? Well those weren't business trips." She was really upset.
I hugged her. "I'm so so sorry mom."
"It's ok."
I pulled away from her. "I didn't mean to get you upset."
"It's fine don't worry about it."
"Well look on the bright side. The house will be peaceful and you don't have to worry about pleasing him," I joked trying to make the situation better.
She laughed through the tears. "That is true. But I don't want to to be mad at your father."
"Mom how am I not supposed to be? That's the lowest thing to do to a person."
"I know, I know. Just I don't want you to loose a relationship with your dad because you mean alot to him." She wiped the tears off her face. "I'm going to go make dinner." She got off my bed and walked out.
After she was downstairs I closed my door. I just sat on my bed and thought to myself. If he really cared about me then why did he break the family up and do this? The more I thought about it I was pissed. Then I was more upset. The whole situation was so stupid. But after I thought about it for a while I wasn't as upset. There is nothing I can do to stop it. And it's not my fault. I unlocked my phone and texted Aspen. Hey.
I wasn't going to tell anyone. Ok maybe some people. Only close friends.
Aspen FaceTimed me out of nowhere.
"Hey," I said. She could probably see my red puffy eyes from crying. But I could also see hers. "What's wrong?" I asked immediately.
"Well, I was just told my parents are getting a divorce," she basically yelled in tears through the phone.
"Aspen. It's going to be ok. Ok? Trust me I know what you are going through."
"But Skylar what's wrong you look upset?"
"Well Aspen. I was told the same thing."
"Really?! I'm so sorry." She was still crying a little.
"It's fine. I'm over it. But at least we have each other." I smiled through the toughness.
"You are right," she smiled.
"Hey, do you want to spend the night?" I asked out of the blue.
"Yeah. I'm not even going to ask I'm just going to come over."
"Ok I'll pick you up in my moms car," I said and hung up.
I ran downstairs. "Mom. Set the table for another person. Aspen's coming over. I'm going to pick her up. Where are your keys?" I jumbled on.
"Ok honey," she handed me her keys.
I was surprised when she handed me the keys to her one and only baby car. She awws over that stupid thing. It's an Audi that she got a few months ago.
"Thanks." I quickly walked out the front door.
10 minutes later Aspen was getting in my car.
"Are you sure your ok?" I asked sympathetically as she got in.
She sighed. "Yeah. My mom is the one that is taking it the hardest."
I looked over at her. "Sorry to ask but what happened?"
"It's fine." She then continued. "My dad was cheating on my mom with this one lady from his office. What about you?"
I took a deep breath. "My dad was cheating with a lady he met who knows the hell where." I blankly said.
"I'm sorry," she says.
"I know it sucks but let's not talk about it ok? Let's focus on the positive like school tomorrow," I laughed.
"Ok you're right." She looked over at me. "But you do know that school is not positive."
  I just smiled. "I don't know anymore."
"Wait. You always agree. What changed your mind?"
"I don't know," I lied.
She smiled and hit me, "you totally do. You can't get away lying to me."
I just smiled.
"Skylar. Spill."
"I mean. It's nothing." I kept lying. I wasn't going to say. Maybe later.
"Fine. But this conversation is not over."
I just laughed and said, "ok." I parked next to the house and walked in. Thank god mom had dinner ready because I was so hungry.
"Hey, Abigail," Aspen said.
"Hey," my mom said without looking up.
We ate dinner and then went up to my room. Aspen threw her bag on the ground next to my bed.
"So what are you wearing tomorrow?" She asked.
So it was supposed to be like 70 degrees and rainy. Those days are terrible because even though it's 70 it feels like it's 60.
"I don't know what are you wearing?" I plainly said.
"I think I'm going to wear jeans with a flannel."
I walked over to my closet and took the first thing I saw. It was a maroon 1/4 zip sweatshirt from pink. I picked up the skinny jeans that were laying in the closet and said, "I'll just wear this."
Problem solved. So I actually try to look good. But I really don't put too much effort into it. Eventually in the school year I feel as if I wear the same thing over and over again. Does anyone else have that problem?
Anyways, Aspen looked over at me, "seems ok."
I threw the clothes in my closet and sat down on the bed next to her.
"Oh, it seems ok?" I was joking.
"Yeah, I mean it's always ok," she joked back.
I didn't even look at my phone from that time till I woke up the next morning.
I heard my alarm go off. With my eyes closed I found my phone and snoozed it. I had to get up. Ugh. I sat up in bed and grabbed my phone. I had 17 text messages and 2 missed FaceTime calls.
I clicked on FaceTime. I had a miss FaceTime call from a unknown number and Aidan. Yeah I don't really care. I looked on messages 6 were from Aidan. I just ignored them because it was 6:30 in the morning. There was three from my mom and the remaining ones were from stores because you always have to be a bargain shopper. I decided to text Aidan back. And all I said was, "sorry, a few things came up  and I didn't check my phone."
I got out of bed and got ready. Aspen woke up.
  "Skylar."
  "Yeah."
"I don't want to go to school," she groaned.
  "Same."
I walked over to my chair in the corner of the room and rolled my jeans.
"Does this look ok?" She asked.
"Yeah. It looks fine," I was droggy. I walked for the bathroom and brushed my hair and teeth. I quickly curled my eyelashes and put mascara on them. We had to get ready early since mom had to take us.
"Are you guys ready?" She yelled from the bottom of the stairs.
"Yeah, just a minute," I yelled back and quickly walked to my room.
"Hey Aspen. You ready yet?" I asked impatiently.
"Yeah." She grabbed her back and we left the room.
We all walked out to the car and mom drove us to school.
Thanks," Aspen and I said as we got out of the car and closed the door.
I walked to my car, Aspen following. I could tell she was upset.
"Hey sky, I think I'm going to go inside," she murmured.
"Oh ok that's fine. I'll meet up with you first hour ok?" I replied.
"Yeah that's fine," she slowly walked into the school.
I opened he car door and grabbed my bags that were thrown in there from yesterday. I sighed. I hope today goes good, I thought to myself. I got out of the car and was going to shut the door when someone came up behind me.
"Skylar. Is everything alright? I tried texting you last night and when you didn't reply I FaceTimed you. I just wanted to make sure you were alright.
I turned around and looked at him. Tears were kind of welling up in my eyes. "I'm fine," I managed to say.
He set down his stuff on the ground. "You sure," he sadly said.
Like that helped. I don't know what happened but he just hugged me. The next thing I know I was crying into his lettermen jacket. I felt so bad. I went to let go and he wouldn't let me.
"I'm sorry," I murmured into his jacket.
  "Sorry for what?" He questioned.
"For leaving tear marks on your jacket." I kind of smiled.
I know he smiled too. "Skylar it's fine."
He finally let go and I opened my car door.
  "Where are you going?"
"Anywhere but here," I yawned. "You want to come with."
"Um yeah," he smiled, picked up his stuff and quickly got in before anyone would see him.
I quickly drove away. "Thank you," I said.
He just smiled, "so where are we going anyways."
"Well I did some research and found a beach two hours away, where no one from school will go. So you get stuff for the beach and then I will. Where do you live?"
"Take a left up at the next stop sign."
  "Ok."
"And then another right and my house is the first white one with the black shutters."
I pulled into the driveway and put the car in park.
"Are you going to come in?" He asked as he was getting out.
"Yeah." I unbuckled my seatbelt and got out.
He looked back and waited for me to come with. I walked next to him.
"So what happened?" He asked.
"I'll just tell you later ok?"
"Ok." We walked into his house. It was nice. It had a new kitchen and hardwood floors throughout the house.
I kind of stood there in awkwardness. He just looked at me and smiled.
"You do know you could come with me right," he laughed. "It's not like I'm going to hurt you."
"I know but I don't want to intrude," I mentioned.
"Your not," he shook his head.
I followed him to his room. It was not what I expected. Well it was clean, but I expected like it to be cluttered. He had band posters hung up and pictures all over. But you cant forget about football. Pictures and pictures of football and all that jazz. But I noticed something. Sitting on his dresser was a picture of us. I walked over to where he was standing and picked up the picture.
"When did you take this," I smiled.
"When we were at the beach. I mean you aren't paying attention but."
"But why do you keep it because I look disgusting in this," I kind of laughed.
"Oh my gosh." He turned towards me. "No you don't."
"I mean," I continued.
"Don't even," he joked cutting me off of the conversation.
He walked over to his closet and grabbed a bag and then closed the closet door.
"Alright let's go," he said.
I walked out of the room, him following.
"Oh, I forgot to ask," I said without looking at him. "Do you have football practice after school?"
"No. Do you have volleyball?"
"Nope. Thank god."
We reached the bottom of the stairs when the back door opened. I didn't know what to do, but Aidan grabbed my hand and quickly dragged me outside. We ran to the car and I quickly drove away.
I was a little startled. "What exactly happened back there?"
"My mom was just getting home and if she saw that I had a girl home, she would have freaked out."
"Oh I understand."
I turned the corner to go to my house.
"Oh shit," he said as he looked down at his phone.
"Oh shit what?" I nervously asked.
"My mom texted me and asked why I was home. Oh and who I was with and why I wasn't at school."
"Well I need to text my mom and tell her I'm not going and she'll call me in but what are you going to say?"
  "I don't know," he panicked.
"Well tell her you were with a friend. But think of something she'll let you do to get you out of school."
"Ok." He started rapidly texting and then he got a really big smile on his face.
  "What!?" I smiled.
"All I said was I was with a friend and if she could call me in. And then she responded with sure but don't do anything stupid. Damn this has never happened before. I'm shook."
"Well." I parked my car on the street in front of my house.
  "Well what?" He was confused.
"Oh I'm at my house." I smiled and then texted my mom. I set my phone in the cup holder and got out. Walking in front of my car I looked in and Aidan raised his arms in a what motion. I shook my head, smiled, and motioned for him to come with.
"Well that took you long enough," he joked as he shut the car door."
"Well I thought you would just come with."
"I know I'm just giving you shit," he laughed.
We walked in the front door and he followed me upstairs. I walked to my closet and grabbed a beach bag. He just looked around. I mean I don't care, because I did it.
Frantically putting things in my bag, I heard the front door open. It was my dad. Aidan looked at me and panicked. I motioned for him to be quiet and to not move.
  "Skylar!" My dad yelled.
  "Yeah," I ran downstairs.
"What are you doing home?" You have school."
  "Umm I wouldn't talk," I said pissed.
"Are you kidding me?!" He argued. "Why are you home?"
"I. Don't. Feel. Good." I gritted my teeth. "Now tell me why you're home." I crossed my arms.
"I left my phone at home." He grabbed it off the counter.
"Ok." I was kind of rude.
"Well I'm going to take off. Bye," he said and walked out.
  I ran back upstairs.
  "I'm so sorry," I apologized.
"You're fine." He was sitting on my bed. "But Skylar. I don't want to be nosy, but why don't you get along with your dad?"
"It's fine," I sighed and sat down next to him.
  "I'm sorry."
I shook my head. "Well. To start this off my dad was just caught cheating on my mom. And now they are getting a divorce. So yeah."
"I'm sorry Sky. But I know how it feels. My parents aren't together either. But it wasn't like that. One day they both approached me and told me they were splitting up. They said it was because they just weren't compatible. But I know it was something. They never did tell me."
I could tell him it bothered him. I looked over at him, he was looking down at the floor.
"I'm sorry. It really sucks."
He looked over at me. I just wanted to pull him close and never let go, but I couldn't. I looked away to loose the feeling.
"We should go." I got up.
Aidan stood up. I looked up at him. My heart dropped. He pulled me close and kissed me. I ran my hands through his hair and then brushed his face.
I pulled away. Damn. He looked down at me and then did it again. I'm not going to lie, I liked him and I mean a lot.
He pulled away. "Skylar. I really like you," he started. "I've been wanting to do that." He smiled.
I looked down, smiled, and bit my lip in happiness. "You have no idea." I was basically speechless.
"So where does this put us?" He asked anxiously.
"It's up to you." I was really hoping he wanted to date.
He kind of laughed. "Well."
"Well," I mocked.
"I was hoping we could become an outstanding bitchass couple."
"Well I'm down to be a bitchass couple." I laughed.
He pulled me close and whispered in my ear, "thank god you ran into me on the first day."
I just smiled. "I can't believe I'm going to say this but, thank god for the bitches."
We walked downstairs and out to the car.
"I can drive you know," Aidan mentioned.
"I don't want to die you know," I joked.
"Ha ha." He picked up the aux cord. "Do I at least get to be in charge of this."
I playfully rolled my eyes, "fine but one rule; no weird ass music."
He threw his arms up, "yes mam."

Two hours later we were at the beach. There was barely anyone there.
"Well I'm going to change," I walked away. Even though there was nobody there. The bathroom still managed to have a long ass line.
I looked at my phone. Aspen called and texted me. She would probably pick up if I called, so I called her.  She answered.
"Where are you?" she was upset.
"I'm sorry Aspen. I just couldn't go today. It's been a rough week so far."
"I know how you feel. I wish you were here though. It's been kind of crappy without you here."
  "I feel your pain."
"I'm sorry but I have to go," she sadly said.
"Ok bye." I hung up. I was next in line. I walked in and it was so humid. I changed as fast as I could and got the hell out of there.
"Well it took you long enough," Aidan joked as I walked closer to him.
I just shook my head, smiled, and said, "you don't understand, that lined was so long."
"Excuses excuses," he smirked and stood up from the bench he was sitting on.
I mean, I was a little down about leaving Aspen.
I grabbed my bag from the ground.
"Hey will you carry my bag too? I'm feeling a little lazy," he joked.
"How about no," I smiled and kicked his bag closer to him.
He looked at me and then at his bag, and then back at me again. "Well, that's not shocking," he smiled and grabbed his bag.
I started to say something and then this old lady confronted me. She was about 5 foot and she had white curly hair.
"Excuse me young lady, but why aren't you in school?" She was very rude.
I looked at Aidan and then back at the old lady. I took a deep breath and said," So this is what happened. We dropped out of high school, to get married. Because who needs education?" I could see Aidan holding back a smile and a laugh.
And let me tell you. The lady yelled at us like no other. And then I pretended to cry and she immediately felt bad. She walked away really fast. I turned to Aidan and started to laugh.
"Well that was fun," I sighed.
He shook his head. "That lady is probably going to come back."
I raised my arms, "oh well."
All I once I realized that it was 70 degrees and here I stood at the beach in a fricking bathing suit. It actually was cold.
"Oh Aidan," I harassed. "So tell me about the thing with Emmitt." It was so off topic.
"Umm," he started.
"Aidan?" Someone said in question.
"Yeah?" He turned around. His grin fell.
"Aidan, why. Why are you here you're supposed to be in school." The girl with the big blue eyes and long blond hair with beach waves, said.
"Well, it's really none of your business." He rambled.
"Excuse me but, at least I now know that the rumors about you cheating on me are true," she sassed.
"It's not true and why. Why are you here assuming shit?"
She looked into my soul with her cold ice blue eyes and said, "I don't know." And she walked away that was the first and last time I ever saw her.
"Well," I turned towards Aidan. "That wasn't awkward at all," I smiled. I was totally fine with just happened because I mean it's high school. People are generally like that.
He looked at me, smiled and said, "this is why I like you." He grabbed both my hands and then kissed me.
The next thing that happened, I never saw it coming. The bitch from earlier, walked over to me, spit in my face and slapped me. I'm not a mean person so I stood there and took it. While I stood there I must've forgotten to breathe because I passed out. No one caught me. So now instead of having one red mark on my face, I had two. Great.
The next thing I know I'm sitting in the passengers seat in my car with Aidan holding an ice pack to my face. By the looks of the rest of my day it was probably gonna be shitty.
"Skylar are you gonna be ok?"
"Yeah yeah yeah." I closed my eyes. "Let's just leave."
"Agreed. People here are just bad news." He mentioned.
  My phone started buzzing.
"Hello what's wrong? Aspen. Why are you calling?"
She talked really fast and I couldn't understand.
  "Aspen. Aspen."
  She paused.
"Slow down. Aspen. I'm here for you what's wrong?"
"Skylar you just need to get to my house asap."
"But why? Why are you home? What about school?"
"Skylar I can't talk right now. Just get here as soon as possible."
I could hear the tears in her voice.
  "Aidan?"
  "Yeah?"
"Step on it. I'll drop you off at your house and I'll go over to Aspens. I'm sorry but something is really wrong."
