As I get my ticket checked, I see the girl again. She's three people ahead of me; maybe I can sit with her on the way there. I walk into the airplane and search for her. Maybe I can finally make another friend. I spot her near the back of the plane, right in front of where the food is held. I casually walk in her direction and sit next to her. Unlike the other kids who are finding seats next to their pals, she doesn't treat me like a god. She's not staring at me or trying to do anything for me or anything. As the Jet takes off I try to think of conversation starters. "Hey! My dad's the CEO of d.i.g.o.p" no, I think to myself. "Hey girl how's it going?" Nope. Man if standing in front of people doesn't get me nervous, this does.
About an hour into flight I finally go in for it.
"Hi." I say, trying to provoke a conversation. She looks over and gives me her full attention. She has dark brown eyes and a necklace with fake crystals of all sorts all over it. She's clearly not poor but not extremely rich as well. About middle class. Man I wish I could be normal like the rest of these kids.
"Hi," she responds.
"My name's Kal Mosq." I state.
"I'm Christine Malbrook." She says. And the conversation begins.
She talks about how her family was on the rich side, but her Mom wanted to get away from it all so she ran away from home and lived in the country. She met a man and soon they married. Little did he know that she was technically royal family but she changed her name and burned her birth certificate. After having Christine, the father went into the military and was never heard from again. Now it's just Christine and her mother on a farm.
I was about to tell her my backstory but she said "Zip it. I've heard all about it. You've always been on the news." Then there was awkwardness between us. Then I asked why she was alone on the bus. "I never got the privilege to go to a public school. My mom homeschooled me. I never made a single human friend. My only friends are back home on that farm." again, awkwardness.
Then I said to her, "I'll be your friend." She smiled at me and then went back to staring out the window.
A few more hours into the flight, the flight attendants started handing out lunch. PB&J's, a classic. When the kids up front were handed their food, they wolfed it down and began to talk again. When it came to me and Christine, I had not had PB&J's in a while so it was like tasting a new meal. Christine didn't even acknowledge that food was on her tray so I told her food is ready.
"I'm not hungry, I just need to think." She said. I respected that choice and continued to eat. Later that night, when the kids began to fall asleep, I pulled out my Nintendo DS and began to play Super Mario 64 DS on it. Luckily it didn't cause any flight problems so I continued to play it. Christine was surprisingly still up and challenged me to a round of Mario Kart that I had with me as well. She beat me, four 1st places to three 1st places. Later she fell asleep and when the plane took a turn, her head fell into my lap. I thought it was rather cute and left her there. I then went to sleep myself. Tomorrow we would be arriving in China. Tomorrow is another day.
