Kasey sat on her bed, slowly stretching her arms. She got up up with a sigh. Her cat, Azazel, was meowing at the door, begging to be let in. She hadn't named him of course, her geeky brother had, forever obsessed with weird sci-Fi shows, crime thrillers and horror shows. The wooden floor was cold against her feet, and she shivered. She gripped the handle and swung the door open, wrinkling her nose as usual when Azazel came close. Kasey loved the cat, sure, but he always seemed to have a faint sulfuric smell around him. Azazel's bright yellow eyes followed her movements as she put on a necklace that had been sitting on her chest of drawers. She had to take it off for swimming, but otherwise, she never took it off, ever. The blue stone settled comfortably against her chest, warming up as it came into contact with her skin.
A boom of thunder made her spin around, then Kasey relaxed as she realised it was only the weather. Rain beat out a rhythm on the window, turning the window foggy. Kasey stared out of the glass, onto her browning garden and wilting flowers. Summer is never kind in Australia. It took several minutes for Kasey to realise something was very, very, wrong. The rain was going up.
