Aidan's P.O.V
It had been a whole year since I'd met Nicholas Saunders and my famous cousin Damien Alloyd. The latter got on my nerves still, to say the least. Nicholas, or 'Nic' as I called him, wasn't so bad though. I mean for a Saunders and all, he was really laid back and calm. It was him who told me not to start so many fights with people just because I wanted to (though it took some convincing and a few arguments to fully make me understand his reasoning). On the other hand, I only found more reasons not to like Damien. For example, Damien had the hots for this girl named Aniya that was totally a blonde (and I mean in the sense that she was stupid and prissy as hell). She sees Nic and starts acting all cute, but Damien's like "be nice to her" and "she wants to be friends with someone like you so be grateful". I've never seriously dated before, but I can say for sure that guys don't usually want other guys to be friendly with their crushes. My cousin's so goddamn lovesick that he can't pull his head out of his ass and see that she doesn't even like him. Nic's just going with the flow and telling me not to get so worked up over it, but it's not that easy. I feel sorry for Nic because he has to go home and deal with that mess every day.
"Oh, Nicky! What class do you go to next?" Aniya's sing-song voice echoed through the classroom and I slammed my head against my desk in frustration.
"I go to Biomagis. Why?" my friend answered dully, gazing down into his desk while Damien was sitting a couple of rows up with an irritated frown on his face yet again.
"I have regular ole boring reading with Damien so I wanted to know if you could tell me what happens in your class," Aniya replied sweetly, as she leaned over Nic's desk like a harpy.
The second bell rang, announcing the end of free period and I jumped up automatically. Nic turned to look at me as I sent Aniya a disgusted frown. Nic smiled softly and I couldn't help but roll my eyes in return. Of course Damien came right over to the seventh grade preteen and offered to walk with her to class. I watched Nic's smile change to a silently discerning gaze as he watched the two interact. It was like he was seeing if she would respond in a just as annoying way. I couldn't help but pay close attention too.
"Yeah, I guess," she mumbled impatiently as she turned to my blonde cousin in a manner that was obviously out of annoyance.
With a broad smile playing across his face, Damien grabbed Aniya's hand and sped out of the classroom like his life depended on it. For a moment, I even saw smoke in their trail, which tells how happy Damien was (both to be holding her hand and to get her away from us). I raised my head and sighed in relief, seeing that they both were gone. Nic was the first to get up and pick up his book bag and I soon followed. Nic was really quiet as he watched the classroom door, making me fell slightly uncomfortable. I slung my book bag over my shoulder and moved in front of him. He looked up at me as if just snapping out of his daze.
"I suppose we should go to class together too then," I invited nervously, trying to avoid directly saying that I would also be going to his class.
"Now that I think about it," Nicholas grinned wryly as an idea came to mind, "It would be okay with you if we skipped this period right. Wanna tag along with me just this once?"
My eyes widened in surprise at my friend's sudden daring, "You skip a class. Something must be horribly wrong. You never miss a class, Mr. Perfection."
"I guess not, but come on! We're both in Biomagis again while Damien's in like pretty much aced it already and even Aniya's doesn't take it anymore. We both suck at healing so of course we'll fail the actual practice of it."
I thought it over; being that Biomagis was my favorite class to take a nap in. If I skipped it I wouldn't get any sleep, but it would be a whole lot of fun. Nic was staring at me pleading and I knew that he was skipping it because he would fail it anyway. Biomagis wasn't exactly a class you needed to pass to graduate though. My friend was still smart, don't get me wrong, but he had this thing with healing: he just couldn't do it. If I actually stayed awake in class then I could have possibly been okay, but this guy was inept at it. He could totally read the textbook, take a quiz on the material, and get a 100, but if he had to perform it on a paper cut or something, he'd make a flat out 0. Even Damien laughed at him for his trouble in that class. It was just sad to me.
