chapter V
Narrator's P.O.V.
Needless to say, it took some effort to make him stay with you in the remaining months he mentioned to need to until the log pose would settle before he went on his voyage again; Ever since then he would slowly open up to you, spending some hours talking about his rambunctious but loyal crewmates and how he had rised to the position of a division commander so fast, ... only to be reminded about how he had to catch the infamous Blackbeard, and then would his anger boil enough to sometimes menace nearby grass or plants that he ignited flames unwillingly against the surroundings (because, of course he had to tell you about this ability - specially after that one time you thought he had caught himself on a fire as he was surrounded by the heating flames, slowly devouring his body,...or so you thought until he explained the matter to you and by then you had already soaked him with water) . but, it was understandable: such unimaginable action he took just out of greed, to obtain a certain devil fruit... when he could simply ask for it and spare the life of their companion and crewmate. how awful...no wonder Ace felt uneasy as the time went by and one more day off as he allowed the vile bastard to wander around, unpunished.
He would not be reminded as much of such case when he was around you though; somehow it was like you had a healing effect on him, making him forget all his pain, and bad memories for a while, as he just layed down against the fields of lavender and gold forgetting all the worries ....
Of course as well, every once the kids came by they would goof around and they grew particularly close to the fire fist as well, now going as far as to address him as their older brother in a likewise fashion as the one directed to yours. Yet, there were things that even kids were picking on far too quickly specially ever since that time Ace accidentally put a fair share of flowers nearby to dust as he unwantingly burned them afte the bold question posed by the youngest one had come out:
" nee, if you're nii-chan and (your name) is nee-chan, then are you married now? "
of course, it's not necessary to mention that if you could catch fire to something you'd have as well, but the fire itself manifested well in your cheeks coloring them a shade that would make strawberries envious. yes it was a child's words, out of innocence and curiosity, but still, ...
You wished the part of the couple would be true.
Granted out of your thoughts as you felt a poke in your cheek, absentmindedly having been staring at the stars, lost in your daydreaming, you could tell that the raven-haired logia user was calling you and for a good reason.
" hey, what'cha thinking of you weirdo? "
"...who're you calling weirdo, flame-head? "
Ah, yes have we mentioned how you now had also adopted 'affectionate' nicknames? wonderful. at least, you could now somewhat understand the pain of Aysia when Rami teased her or played around with her patience. But it was not like you'd get offended; you had grown to use these every so often in a light manner and context, as if in an innocent, naiive game.
A smile curved onto your lips before your consciousness retreated it to the pits of your soul, as you reminded yourself that you were just some inches away from his body, shoulders almost touching with one another, as you layed parallel to his frame enjoying the light breeze passing by as you peacefully watched the starry sky - although for now, you had grown already bored of it, wanting to instead stare at the features of your beloved...but of course, such would turn out to be obvious and you did not want to make it awkward... you were not yet sure of his feelings for you.
" do you think...that when we die we turn into those?"
" huh...? what kind of cliched romance did you get that one from? "
