Anna held on to Liam's torso as they drove down the road. She still couldn't believe she was going to finally meet her father. Her real father. she didn't quiet know how she was feeling. It was a strange mixture of excitement, and anxiety. Was this even a good idea? He left for a reason. Anna thought as she lend her head on Liam's shoulder. But that was a long time ago. I'm sure he'd want to see me now, right? Questions ran through her head and she started to doubt her choice. Is it too late to turn back? Anna asked herself even though she already knew the answer. Yes.
Liam's motorcycle came to a stop once he turned off the engine. Anna hopped off the bike, and took off her helmet. Liam did the same. "I'll be waiting outside." he reassured her.
"You're not coming with me?" she asked with a confused expression on her face.
"I just think this is something you need to do on your own." Liam replied with a sad smile.
Anna knew he was right. This was something she needed to do on her own, but did she want to? Not giving herself time to doubt this, Anna made her way to the front door. She took a deep breathe before stepping up on the porch and lightly knocking the door.
"Coming," a muffled voice said followed by footsteps. The door flew open with a woman who looks like she was in her mid thirties standing in front of her. Anna managed a small smile.
"Um," she stammered. "I'm Anna Grant."
The woman looked shocked at first, but quickly replaced the look with a nervous smile. "Come in." she replied in a small voice moving out of the doorway.
Anna forced another smile and walked in. The first thing she saw was what looked like a family picture. There were three boys and two girls sitting on a bench while what seemed like the parents stood behind the bench. The family wore happy smiles. The woman led Anna to the living room. "I'm going to go call him for you." she smiled. "You just make yourself at home."
Once the woman was gone, Anna continued to look at the different photographs. Most of them were family photos, but one caught Anna's eyes. It was a wedding photo of the woman and some man. The man looked like the one her uncle was talking to. "Anna?" a masculine voice asked behind her.
Anna turned around to face the source of the voice. It was the man in the photo. It was her father. Her real father. "Dad?" she asked.
Her father held a shocked expression. "I'm not-" he cut himself off. "You shouldn't be here."
"But, I am." Anna smiled. "I had to see you. You are my dad after all."
"No," he whispered. "No, I'm not."
Anna fought back tears. "What?" she asked in a small voice.
"Dad?" a voice came behind Anna's father.
"Greg, go back outside." her father demanded. "I'll be there in a minute."
The boy nodded before glancing at Anna and leaving the room. "Who was that?" Anna asked.
"My son." he answered.
"I have a brother?" Anna asked with a smile.
"No, you don't Anna." he snapped.
"But-" he cut her off.
"No!" he yelled. "I'm not your father. I didn't want you then and I don't want you now. I have another family. Just go back home to your uncle. You belong with him."
Anna stared at the man in front of her. He's not my father. Anna thought as tears ran down her cheeks. Before the man can hurt her any more, Anna ran out the door. Liam walked up to her and pulled her into an embrace. "What happened?" he asked pulling away and wiping her tears with his thumb.
"He yelled at me." Anna cried. "He told me he didn't want me and that he has another family."
Without another word, Liam put his helmet on and gave Anna hers. "Let me take you home," he said as he climbed on his bike. Anna nodded mocking his actions. Liam started the engine and drove out of the driveway.
He was never my father and he never will be. Anna thought as more tears ran down her face.
